Iran-Israel Latest Update: A missile assault on a residential compound in Saudi Arabia has made headlines of the growing security threats in the Gulf region since the regional tensions have continued to escalate. The fact that the incident resulted in the death of two foreign nationals, including an Indian citizen, underscores the manner in which geopolitical fights are becoming more and more the order of the day even in civilian areas, far away off the battle field.
The projectile fell in a house complex of a maintenance and cleaning company in the city of Al-Kharj, which is situated to the south of Riyadh and the Saudi Civil Defense teams were at the scene promptly. Reportedly, due to the strike, the buildings were structurally damaged and an emergency rescue operation was launched in the place.

Police verified that there were two fatalities in the accident. Indian and Bangladeshi citizens were one of the victims moreover 12 Bangladeshi citizens were injured and were taken to local hospitals to get a treatment while the authorities are yet to publish the names of the dead.
The assault is an indication of the growing vulnerability of civilian locations in the Gulf region. Drones and missile attacks are no longer limited to military bases as regional powers and global powers continue to clash. The residential areas, workplaces and even the infrastructural facilities are finding themselves in the middle of the crossfire.
The recent reports indicate the magnitude of the increasing threat in the region. The foreign ministry of Kuwait claimed that since the war escalated, it has been intercepting approximately 234 missiles and 422 drones in its airspace. The fallen debris interventions and the damage have also been reported by several neighboring countries.
Millions of South Asia and other South Asian migrant workers work in Saudi Arabia, which has an important and positive contribution to the economy of this country. Such cases highlight susceptibility of expatriate societies that frequently reside in residential compounds in the same residential areas close to places of work.
According to the incident, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh encouraged all Indian nationals in Saudi Arabia to be vigilant and obey safety guidelines given by the local authorities. The mission reported its services in Riyadh and consulate in Jeddah will be operating well and that flights between Saudi cities and India are operating as usual.
The Al-Kharj tragedy is a reminder that the consequences of a geopolitical confrontation may be disastrous to the common people with the escalation of tension in the Middle East, diplomacy and restraint are still needed to avoid escalation in civilian casualties.
