Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran has introduced a “new arrangement” to manage the country’s current situation, while insisting that US-led economic pressure has not delivered the results sought by its opponents.

In a post on X, Pezeshkian said the government had taken steps with public support to keep the country’s economy functioning despite mounting external pressure. He did not explain what the new arrangement would entail.

What did Pezeshkian say about Iran’s economy?

Pezeshkian accused Iran’s adversaries of attempting to weaken the country by targeting its economic lifelines. He said the government had worked with the public to prevent those efforts from achieving their intended outcome, arguing that the economic campaign against Tehran had not succeeded in forcing Iran to its knees.

The Iranian president’s comments come as the United States continues to impose sanctions on Iranian economic networks, including those associated with energy, shipping and financial activity.

Trump Claims Iran Is Facing Severe Economic, Military Setbacks

Pezeshkian’s assessment is markedly different from that of US President Donald Trump, who has portrayed Iran as suffering major economic and military losses.

Trump recently claimed that Iran was dealing with extremely high inflation, a weakened currency and significant damage to its military capabilities. He also predicted that the conflict would come to an end soon. Trump said the conclusion of the hostilities would have a major impact on global energy markets, arguing that oil prices would fall sharply once the conflict ends.

Strait Of Hormuz Remains Key To Energy Markets

Developments involving Iran continue to have implications for global oil and gas supplies because of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for energy shipments. Any prolonged disruption in the region could keep pressure on international energy markets, while a return to normal shipping conditions could ease some of that pressure.

US Sanctions Continue To Target Iran

Washington has continued its campaign of economic sanctions against Iran, with recent measures targeting financial networks and entities accused of supporting Tehran’s oil trade and other revenue-generating activities.

The US Treasury has said the sanctions are intended to restrict funds available to the Iranian government and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Tehran has rejected Washington’s portrayal of the impact of the sanctions and continues to maintain that its economy can withstand the pressure.
