Iran has signalled that it is prepared to continue its military confrontation with the United States while keeping diplomatic channels open. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Tehran would not be pressured by Washington’s actions and would use both military and diplomatic means to protect its interests.
Speaking in parliament on Sunday, Qalibaf said Iran was prepared for further developments on the battlefield while also pursuing negotiations through diplomatic channels.
What did Iran say about US actions?
Qalibaf said Tehran was “neither excited nor intimidated” by Washington’s moves and maintained that Iran was capable of responding militarily while continuing diplomatic efforts.
According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, he said the country would confront the US with what he described as “new surprises” while using diplomacy to advance what Tehran considers the rights of the Iranian people.
His comments come amid continued tensions between Washington and Tehran over the conflict and the status of the Strait of Hormuz.
What are Iran’s conditions for reopening Strait of Hormuz?
Iran has maintained that the strategic waterway will remain closed until its demands are addressed. Qalibaf said the US had sent proposals through mediators after Tehran presented a seven-day roadmap for reopening the strait. However, he reiterated that Iran would not restore normal passage until seven conditions linked to the Islamabad Memorandum are fulfilled.
The framework was agreed in June and forms the basis of Iran’s current demands for resolving the conflict.
What has Iran demanded to end the war?
Tehran previously communicated its conditions to Washington through Qatari mediators. The demands include a broad halt to military operations across all fronts.
Iran has also called for:
- A comprehensive cessation of hostilities
- The release of frozen Iranian funds
- An end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports
The demands form part of Tehran’s broader position on any potential agreement to end the war.
What happens next in the Iran-US conflict?
Iran’s latest position suggests that Tehran is keeping both military and diplomatic options open. While Qalibaf indicated that Iran would continue confronting the US, he also stressed the importance of diplomacy.
The Strait of Hormuz remains central to the standoff, with Tehran linking its reopening to progress on the conditions it has presented for ending the conflict.
