US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Iran is preparing to announce a new shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz while also planning a restricted maritime zone around the strategic waterway, adding another layer of uncertainty to an already disrupted global shipping route. Tehran says it has agreed on the new corridor with Oman and will announce its details in the coming days.

Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei said the new restricted zone will extend from the US Navy’s blockade line into parts of the Persian Gulf. Tehran also plans to put ships entering the zone without approval on a sanctions list. At the same time, Iran says the new shipping corridor with Oman will have entry and exit points controlled by Iranian forces.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Iran to Announce New Shipping Route Through Strait of Hormuz

Iran says it will announce a new shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz in the coming days following an agreement with Oman.

Rezaei said Iran and Oman have agreed on the maps for the new route and will sign an agreement soon. Iran will control the entry and exit points of the corridor, giving Tehran a major role in deciding how vessels move through the waterway.

The proposed route comes as normal commercial traffic through Hormuz remains severely disrupted. Iran’s announcement appears aimed at establishing a controlled channel for shipping rather than restoring unrestricted passage through the strait.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Iran Plans Restricted Maritime Zone Around Hormuz

Iran is also preparing to announce a restricted maritime zone outside the Strait of Hormuz. Rezaei said the zone will start from the line of the US naval blockade and extend into parts of the Persian Gulf. Tehran plans to impose sanctions on vessels that enter the newly designated area.

“Any vessel entering this new zone will be placed on a sanctions list,” he said. The proposed restrictions could further complicate decisions for shipping companies already dealing with higher security risks, insurance costs and limited vessel movements in the region.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Hormuz Shipping Traffic Falls as Tensions Escalate

Commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has dropped sharply following the latest exchange of attacks between the US and Iran.

Reuters reported that commodity vessel traffic averaged only about 10 ships a day over the past 10 days, the lowest level since May. The decline followed US strikes on three Iranian oil tankers and subsequent Iranian attacks on US vessels and ships using routes Tehran described as unauthorised.

The fall in traffic has increased concerns about the flow of oil and other commodities from the Gulf. Hormuz remains a critical energy route, meaning prolonged disruption could affect crude supplies, tanker costs and global fuel prices.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Restricted Zone in Hormuz Will Be Very Vulnerable to US Attack

The proposed Iranian restricted zone could create a major military challenge for Tehran if Iranian forces attempt to enforce it.

Stephen Zunes, founding chair of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of San Francisco, said Iran could struggle to physically enforce restrictions around Hormuz because its ships and aircraft would remain exposed to US attacks.

“It’s hard to see how they will really be able to enforce it. Iranian ships and planes trying to enforce that would be very vulnerable to US attacks,” he told Al Jazeera. “But perhaps they are giving a warning, given there still would be some risk for shipping companies to not count on being able to get through the strait without suffering consequences.”

Zunes said Iran may be hoping to provoke a broader US military response, which could benefit Tehran politically by “justifying attacks” on neighbouring states and US military facilities in the region.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Oil Prices Rise as Hormuz Disruption Deepens

Oil prices moved higher as the latest attacks raised concerns about a prolonged disruption to tanker movements.

Brent crude rose 1.25% to $97.48 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate climbed to $92.62 on Monday, according to Reuters. The latest gains followed attacks involving US and Iranian forces and concerns over further restrictions around Hormuz.

Brent had already recorded a strong weekly rise as the conflict intensified. Traders are now watching whether reduced vessel traffic turns into a wider supply shock.

The impact could extend beyond crude prices. A separate Reuters report warned that refiners are producing less fuel oil as they prioritise products such as diesel and gasoline, potentially creating additional pressure on shipping fuel costs.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Why the New Iran Shipping Route Matters?

The proposed corridor matters because it could establish a new framework for commercial vessels attempting to navigate the Hormuz crisis.

Iran wants to control the corridor’s entry and exit points, while Oman is involved in the agreement. If the route becomes operational, selected vessels could potentially use a designated path rather than attempting to navigate the wider restricted area.

However, questions remain over whether international shipping companies will consider the route sufficiently safe.

The biggest issue will be whether US forces recognise the corridor and whether insurers are willing to cover vessels using it. The new route therefore could reduce some uncertainty for shipping operators, but it could also create another point of confrontation if Washington and Tehran disagree over which vessels have permission to pass.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Hormuz Shipping Under Pressure

The Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of the wider US-Iran confrontation because of its importance to global energy supplies.

The latest attacks have pushed commercial traffic to its lowest level since May, while Iran’s planned restricted zone threatens to place additional limits on vessels operating near the waterway.

The US, meanwhile, has continued operations aimed at restricting Iranian oil exports. Recent US strikes on Iranian oil tankers have further increased the risks for commercial shipping and contributed to the latest rise in crude prices.

For shipping companies, the situation now involves several overlapping risks: military attacks, sanctions, restricted routes, insurance costs and uncertainty over which authority controls safe passage.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: What’s Next?

The immediate focus will be on Iran’s announcement of the new restricted zone and the shipping corridor with Oman.

Tehran is expected to release details and maps for the proposed corridor in the coming days. The final agreement with Oman will also show how the new route will operate and how Iran plans to manage its entry and exit points.

Markets will meanwhile continue watching oil prices and tanker traffic for signs of a deeper supply disruption. Brent’s move above $97 shows how quickly energy markets are responding to developments around Hormuz.
