Iran has completed the development of South Pars Phase 11, reaching a production capacity of 1 billion cubic feet (28.3 million cubic metres) of natural gas per day. The milestone comes as Tehran works to strengthen domestic energy supplies amid continuing regional tensions.

According to Iran’s Mehr News Agency, the project was completed using Iranian engineering expertise after foreign partners, including France’s Total and China’s CNPC, left the project following years of delays. Iranian officials said the development is expected to help reduce domestic energy imbalances and improve gas supplies ahead of winter.

Iran Completes South Pars Phase 11 Gas Project

Iran has reached the targeted production capacity at South Pars Phase 11, one of the country’s major gas development projects. The phase is expected to add significant gas output to Iran’s domestic energy network.

The achievement is particularly important ahead of the winter season, when demand for natural gas rises because of increased heating requirements.

South Pars Phase 11 Reaches 1 Billion Cubic Feet Per Day

The project has reached a production capacity of 1 billion cubic feet of gas per day, equal to around 28.3 million cubic metres.

The increased output could provide additional supplies for households, power plants and industries. Iran relies heavily on natural gas for electricity generation, heating and industrial activity.

Why Did Foreign Companies Leave South Pars Phase 11?

South Pars Phase 11 faced years of delays involving international energy companies. Total of France and CNPC of China were among the foreign partners associated with the project before their departure.

Following the withdrawal of foreign companies, Iran moved ahead with the development using domestic engineering and technical capabilities.

How Will South Pars Phase 11 Help Iran’s Winter Gas Supply?

Iranian officials said the new production capacity will help address the country’s domestic energy imbalance and strengthen gas availability during winter.

Higher production could ease pressure on Iran’s gas distribution network as household and industrial demand increases during colder months.

Why Is South Pars Important for Iran’s Energy Security?

South Pars is a crucial source of natural gas for Iran and plays a major role in the country’s energy system. Increasing production from its different phases remains important for meeting domestic demand.

The completion of Phase 11 therefore represents another step in Iran’s efforts to expand gas production using domestic resources and expertise.
