US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: The waters around Iran have once again become the centre of a dangerous US-Iran confrontation, with military action now reaching directly into the country’s oil-shipping network. On Saturday, September 5, US forces struck three Iranian crude oil carriers after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles toward two US Navy warships operating in regional waters.

The latest exchange unfolded across the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, bringing military and economic pressure together in a conflict that has already disrupted shipping and raised concerns about global energy supplies. The United States said its aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer avoided the Iranian attacks, while no American personnel suffered injuries.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) later confirmed that American forces targeted three Iranian oil carriers that Washington linked to an alleged financial network supporting the IRGC and its regional allies.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Why Did the US Target Iranian Oil Tankers?

Rather than limiting its response to the reported missile attack, Washington targeted vessels that it said played a role in Iran’s oil-financing system.

CENTCOM said US forces permanently disabled the M/T Downy near Iran’s Kharg Island and the M/T Stark 1 near Jask. American forces also destroyed the unladen M/T Kylo, also known as the “Noxen”, in the Gulf of Oman after directing its crew to abandon the ship.

CENTCOM said its forces hit the Kylo at several critical points to make the vessel inoperable.

The US military described all three vessels as part of a multibillion-dollar “shadow network” that allegedly generates money for the IRGC and its regional proxies. The strikes therefore represented more than a military response, as Washington also sought to put pressure on Iran’s ability to generate revenue through oil exports.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: What Happened to the Three Iranian Oil Carriers?

The three tankers faced different outcomes during the US operation.

  • M/T Downy: US forces permanently disabled the tanker off the coast of Kharg Island, one of Iran’s most important oil-export locations.
  • M/T Stark 1: American forces also permanently disabled this vessel near Jask, east of the Strait of Hormuz.
  • M/T Kylo: US forces targeted the unladen tanker in the Gulf of Oman. After its crew received instructions to abandon the ship, American forces struck several critical areas and destroyed the vessel, according to CENTCOM.

CENTCOM also released video footage that it said showed the attack on the Kylo.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: How Did Iran Respond to the US Strikes?

The Iranian government rejected the American justification and condemned the strikes.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry described the US action as illegal and irresponsible, warning that continued attacks could have wider consequences for maritime trade, international security and regional stability. Other Iranian statements warned that attacks on US military vessels could become more severe if Washington continued its blockade and military pressure.

Iran has also continued to use its position around the Strait of Hormuz as a major source of leverage. The strategic waterway remains critical to international energy shipments, making every new military confrontation in the surrounding waters a potential threat to global oil markets.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: CENTCOM Issues Direct Warning to IRGC

US Central Command Commander Adm. Brad Cooper presented the tanker strikes as a deliberate economic response to the attempted attacks on American warships.

“Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost —taking out three of yours,” Cooper said.

The CENTCOM commander also warned that Washington could target more elements of Iran’s oil fleet if American forces face further attacks.

“We will not hesitate to defend American forces, and if necessary, destroy Iran’s limited and exposed oil fleet,” he added.

The remarks signal that the US could continue combining military operations with economic pressure instead of treating the latest strikes as an isolated exchange.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Why Kharg Island Matters in the Iran Conflict

One of the strikes took place near Kharg Island, a crucial part of Iran’s oil-export infrastructure.

The island handles a major share of Iran’s crude exports, making activity around it particularly important for Tehran’s economy. Any sustained disruption around Kharg Island could therefore affect Iran’s ability to move crude oil to international markets.

The location also gives the latest US strike a wider economic significance. By targeting a vessel near one of Iran’s key oil hubs, Washington demonstrated that Iranian energy infrastructure and shipping networks remain vulnerable to US military action.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Strait of Hormuz Faces Renewed Pressure

The latest confrontation also increases concerns over commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The waterway connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and serves as a major route for global energy shipments. Rising military activity around the region has already complicated shipping operations, while concerns over missile attacks, mines and other threats have increased the risks for commercial vessels.

The latest US strikes could further discourage shipping companies from operating in waters close to Iran. Higher security risks can also increase insurance and transportation costs, potentially putting additional pressure on global oil prices.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: US-Iran Confrontation Moves Beyond the Battlefield

The latest exchange shows how the conflict is increasingly combining conventional military attacks with economic warfare.

Iran’s reported missile launch against US Navy vessels triggered an American response against oil carriers. Washington framed those vessels as part of a financial network supporting the IRGC, while Tehran condemned the US action as an attack on Iranian sovereignty and maritime activity.

That combination makes the latest escalation particularly significant. The confrontation is no longer limited to military bases or warships. Commercial-looking oil carriers, energy infrastructure and strategic shipping routes have all become part of the wider contest between Washington and Tehran.

With US forces warning that they could take further action against Iran’s oil fleet, and Tehran threatening stronger retaliation, the latest strikes could set the stage for another cycle of military and economic escalation across the Gulf region.
