US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: The recent happenings within the US-Israel-Iran conflict illustrate just how fast the war is expanding out of its traditional battle zone. The Houthis’ attack on Saudi Arabia, US claims of attacks on Iranian ships near Kharg Island and the renewed calls for diplomacy have forced the regional governments to ensure that the conflict does not escalate further. On September 8, Houthi’s attack allegedly left 73 people wounded in southern Saudi Arabia.

Turkiye Warns Houthi Attacks Could Derail Diplomacy

Turkiye has condemned the Houthi raids against Saudi Arabia, pointing out that strikes against civilians and infrastructure will only harm any efforts to reach a political settlement of the Yemen dispute. Ankara has reaffirmed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia. This is a timely warning considering that the Houthi raid has become more entangled with the broader US-Iran standoff.

In a statement by the foreign ministry, Turkiye reaffirmed its support for Riyadh’s “sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“These attacks also undermine diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing the conflict in Yemen to an end through a lasting political solution,” the statement read.

“We call on the Houthis to cease their aggressive actions immediately,” it added.

Saudi Arabia Faces Fresh Security and Energy Risks

It was reported that the Houthi attacks were carried out in four cities in Saudi Arabia, namely Khamis Mushait, Abha, Najran, and Jazan. In total, 73 individuals got injured in the attacks, while fire incidents occurred in the energy plants. Economic impacts were felt instantly. Brent crude oil hit $98 per barrel, whereas US crude oil prices exceeded $93.

Sheikha Alanoud Hamad Saud Al Thani, a nonresident fellow at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs, says talks to resolve the US-Iran conflict “have kind of gone awry, to put it mildly”, and that the memorandum of understanding signed in June is no longer “standing on its legs”, she said.

“We hear one thing from one leader, another thing from someone else. It’s still not clear which policy will come out on top in Iran. Will it be the hawks or will it be the doves? We don’t know,” she said.

“It’s up to them whether that choice was beneficial or not, and it’s up to them in moving forward whether they deem it valuable to have a trusting and positive relationship with their neighbours,” she said.

US Strike on Tanker Adds Maritime Danger

The Iranian press has claimed that US military forces attacked one of their tankers off the coast of Kharg Island, though there is much controversy around this particular event. This attack follows a trend of attacks on commercial vessels, which has become increasingly perilous. Reuters stated that US forces recently attacked three Iranian oil tankers, while ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz averaged only 10 commodity ships per day for 10 days.

Qatar Keeps Pushing for Negotiations

However, Qatar maintains that diplomacy is the only way out of the impasse while Qatar has called on Washington and Tehran to go back to the negotiating table, and Pakistan and Oman have been part of the effort to mediate as well. The problem is that any military escalation keeps thwarting these diplomatic attempts.

EU Joins Condemnation of Houthi Escalation

The European Union too has criticized attacks on Saudi Arabia, especially those involving civilian casualties and infrastructure. The EU has stated that attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea pose a threat to stability in the region and will make ending the war in Yemen even more difficult. The broader problem of ship movements is serious enough on its own. Daily traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb strait has been cut from around 50 ships per day to about 32, Reuters reports.

“These attacks constitute a dangerous escalation, violate international law, undermine regional security and stability and risk further jeopardising efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Yemen,” a statement read.

“We call on the Houthis to immediately end all attacks inside and outside Yemen, including attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea,” it said, adding that peace and stability in Yemen were “essential for the security of the Gulf region and the Red Sea”.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: Diplomacy Remains the Only Way Out

Current events indicate that the conflict is not limited only to Iran, Israel and the US anymore, with Yemen, Saudi Arabia, shipping lanes of the Gulf countries and the international energy market becoming more vulnerable as well. The primary issue that arises is whether Washington and Tehran can rebuild their trust to begin negotiations before an attack provokes a broader confrontation in the region. Qatar, Pakistan, and Oman still push for negotiations, but each strike makes this path harder.
