US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: A new phase of tension between US, Israel and Iran appears to be starting, with the Strait of Hormuz becoming the focal point of the military and economic standoff yet again. UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has announced that 59 ships passed through the strategically important strait within the last 48 hours despite the “severe” threat level. At the same time, US military forces reported having re-routed 92 civilian vessels, disabled three and intercepted two of them.

The numbers demonstrate the significance of ensuring the openness of the Hormuz strait. According to Chris Wright, the Energy Secretary of the United States, roughly 9 million barrels of oil are currently passing through the strait every day and such an oil flow might reduce the price pressure on oil all over the globe however, shipping via this strait remains quite hazardous due to insurance issues and the risk of possible attacks, mines or interception by the military forces.

According to Washington, the aim of the naval mission is to disrupt Iranian oil shipments but allow commercial shipping via Hormuz Strait. As per the CENTCOM report, a total of 92 commercial ships were rerouted and three ships were disabled along with two being boarded as of September 6.

This latest incident came after attacks by the United States on three Iranian oil tankers in retaliation for Iranian missiles attacks on US Navy vessels, according to US military.

However, Iranian authorities have hinted that more pressure can lead to a stronger military reaction from their side. Iran does not believe in the theory that economic pressure and military pressure will make it submit and however, the talks are hampered by issues of sanctions, oil exports and navigation. Furthermore, the United States has dismissed claims from Iran about the strike on an unmanned American military ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

Khoshcheshm said that the recent exchange of fire involving Iranian and US ships indicates a change in the tone of the war and shows that “the rules of the game have changed”.

Khoshcheshm said that “if the Americans continue this blockade and attacking Iranian ships, the next responses will be way, way bigger”. “This will move in an escalatory trend towards the midterms, but the midterms is not the only goal, another goal is increasing the costs for US consumers in order to make Donald Trump remove the sea blockade and leave the region,” he added.

The dispute has also been continuing to inflict high costs in Lebanon, where three people have reportedly lost their lives in the result of an Israeli drone attack on a car in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon. Prior reports have revealed Israel’s numerous attacks in the area in spite of diplomatic measures intended to de-escalate the situation.

According to the figures released by Lebanon’s Health Ministry, over the period since the start of the escalation on March 2, more than 4,352 people have been killed and over 12,318 injured.

“The Iranians have consistently surprised us in terms of their resilience,” said Ross, adding that he doubted economic and military pressure alone would force an Iranian retreat. Hardliners, he said, may believe they can endure and ultimately secure what they want.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: What Happens Next?

The key issue is whether or not the battles around Hormuz would stay limited or evolve into something bigger. Given the number of vessels, 59 in two days, and the amount of oil transported through there as 9 million barrels a day while any disruption may have its implications way beyond the Middle East.

At present, the confrontations between militaries, attacks, and attempts to negotiate mean that the conflict has not been resolved yet. The true test will come only when the US and Iran start shipping goods predictably.
