At least five people were killed and more than 50 others injured after a US airstrike struck a residential property where a wedding celebration was underway in southern Iran, according to Iranian authorities. The attack took place in Kuhestak in Sirik County, Hormozgan province, near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. A four-year-old child was among those killed.
Iranian officials condemned the strike, with the Foreign Ministry linking it to a wider series of civilian deaths during the ongoing conflict. The Iranian embassy in India also said that at least five people were killed and more than 50 wounded in the attack. Casualty figures have varied as rescue teams continued their assessment. Reuters reported that the number of wounded could be as high as 68.
Iran Condemns Deadly Wedding Strike
Iranian state broadcaster IRIB released visuals from the scene following the attack. Authorities described the incident as another example of civilian suffering amid the renewed US-Iran conflict. Iran also referred to an earlier US strike on a girls’ school in Minab, which Iranian authorities said killed 160 people. The Pentagon has not publicly issued a final finding on that incident, while a Reuters report said the attack may have involved outdated targeting information.
US-Iran Conflict Intensifies
The wedding strike occurred as the United States launched a fresh wave of attacks against Iranian targets. US Central Command said American forces targeted facilities and equipment linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including air defence systems, radar sites, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications infrastructure.
Washington has accused Tehran of threatening shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and attacking US forces in the region. Iran subsequently launched missile and drone attacks against US military positions. The IRGC claimed that American facilities in Jordan and Iraq were targeted and that US personnel were killed, but initial US assessments cited by Reuters found no American casualties.
Jordan said its air defences intercepted 10 of 13 ballistic missiles that entered its airspace, while Bahrain reported intercepting Iranian drones. The latest fighting has renewed concerns about the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy corridors. The waterway is critical for global oil shipments, and further military escalation could disrupt energy supplies and push crude prices higher.
