US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: The Middle East is poised for more turmoil following heightened tensions between the US, Israel and Iran. New explosions have erupted in Khuzestan province of Iran while at the same time, Israel has approved its plans to spend up to $434 million to expand a settlement in West Bank. These recent developments raise more concerns over the possibility of regional conflict breaking out soon.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Fresh Explosions Raise Questions Over Iran’s Security

There have been reports from the Iranian state media about explosions in Andimeshk, whereas there have been other explosions in the islands of Qeshm and Kish. One of the explosions on Qeshm Island was associated with a projectile from the United States while all of these events occur after a period of increased military activity in the region.

The Israeli Security Cabinet is set to invest 1.3 billion shekels ($434 million) on the construction of 34 new settlements in the occupied West Bank. The finance minister Bezalel Smotrich called it a historical moment while it has been estimated that around half a million Israelis are settled in the occupied West Bank region apart from East Jerusalem, whereas three million Palestinians are living in the area.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967. More than 500,000 Israeli settlers live in the territory, excluding occupied East Jerusalem, among about three million Palestinians.

Israeli troops also destroyed buildings for residents and agriculture in the town of Imatin and located close to Qalqilya. According to Palestinian authorities in the area, the action led to the eviction of 22 families whose houses, livestock shelters and other agricultural infrastructure were razed to the ground.

The state of Qatar strongly criticized an attack carried out by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia in the south, viewing the move as a breach of Saudi sovereignty and a source of instability in the region. This shows that the problem has gone beyond just Israel and Iran.

Qatar has condemned the Houthi attack on southern Saudi Arabia, calling it a “a flagrant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, a breach of international law and a threat to regional security and stability”.

Over the last hour, Iranian media outlets have made reports regarding attacks conducted in various parts of Iran:

  • Qeshm Island: There have been explosions reported in the area. The government stated that the explosion resulted from a projectile launched by the United States.

  • Kish Island: Iran’s Tasnim News Agency announced that there was an explosion resulting from a projectile falling near a water and electrical facility.

  • Andimeshk: Iran’s national broadcaster IRIB reported an explosion in the city situated in Iran’s Khuzestan province.

Military advancements, settlement growth, and humanitarian ramifications are happening at the same time, which has made the situation in the Middle East more complicated. As much as governments keep defending their security measures, the people who suffer as a result are the civilians and since diplomatic efforts have not been successful in pushing things forward, there is a growing need for the international community to ensure that there is restraint.
