US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Global Leaders Hail New US-Iran Ceasefire Agreement
Leaders from multiple countries, including Germany, Australia, Japan and more hailed the new ceasefire agreement that the US and Iran reached today.
Anthony Albanese, the Prime Minister of Australia stated “The Australian Government welcomes the agreement by the United States and Iran. Australia has long called for de-escalation and an end to the conflict, including in Lebanon. As we have said, the longer this war goes on, the greater the impact will be. Continued restraint and constructive engagement will be essential to prevent further escalation and secure a lasting agreement”.
While German chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the agreement reached today “can pave the way towards a reinvigorated global economy and a more secure Middle East. It is crucial to implement it with determination.”
French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron also welcomed the new ceasefire. “I welcome the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, the result of a diplomatic effort to which several partners contributed. I call for its swift and full implementation by all belligerents”.
Macron then added that “This agreement must allow for the urgent and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which the international mission established with the United Kingdom is ready to support”.
Speaking of the UK, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his support for the agreement and called for ‘toll free navigation’ of ships and vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takachi, spoke similarly and said that “Japan strongly hopes that free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz will be ensured in practice, and that a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear issue and other matters will be reached as soon as possible”.

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres, also hailed the new ceasefire agreement. “The Secretary-General welcomes the announcement that the United States and Iran have agreed on a peace deal that provides for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a framework for further negotiations. This represents a critical step towards the peaceful settlement of the conflict”, one of his spokespersons expressed in a brief statement.

US President Donald Trump as well as Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that a ceasefire between US and Iran is now in place.
In a Truth Social post from earlier today, Trump shared that “The Deal with Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!”. He also added that he had ordered an immediate removal of the naval blockade that the US had imposed on Iranian ports.

The ceasefire between US and Iran is a 14 point memorandum of understanding (MoU), that has established a temporary truce. As part of the deal, the US agreed to release frozen Iranian assets, reportedly worth $25 Billion.
Both countries have also agreed to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz waterway and allow free passage for all vessels or ships. The US will also lift all of its sanctions on Iranian oil trade.

Today’s ceasefire agreement had a great impact on oil prices. Brent crude and West Texas International (WTI) reported big drops in oil prices today $78.50 per barrel and $74.20 per barrel respectively. And oil prices will only stabilise further in the future.
