Iran has executed at least 56 people on national security grounds this year, including 27 linked to January protests, UN human rights chief Volker Turk has said.

More than 100 people are still at risk of execution on security charges, the rights chief revealed.

Israel’s military has said that it’s unclear if an Israeli reservist killed in a July settler attack in the occupied West Bank was killed by Palestinian or Israeli fire.
The attack in the village of Tal on July 24 saw four Palestinians, the reservist and an Israeli soldier killed.
Israeli reports accused a Palestinian man of seizing a rifle from one Israeli, opening fire and killing him in the midst of what they later referred to as a “hike” by settlers in Palestinian neighbourhoods.
Multiple Palestinian accounts disputed this version of events.
It was not immediately clear how the other Israeli died. In the days since, Israeli settlers and soldiers have escalated raids across the occupied West Bank.
The investigation noted that “it is not possible to determine unequivocally” how the second Israeli was killed and whether he was shot by Palestinian or Israeli fire.
The investigation also found that the settlers’ “hike” in the area had not been pre-approved by the Israeli army and would not have been allowed to take place if it had.
The slow manner in which Israeli forces deployed, and the uncoordinated way they secured their wounded and dead, were a “serious failure”, the investigation concluded.
