Iran has confirmed that a formal MoU, the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, was signed in France today. Esmaeil Baghaei, a spokesperson from the Iranian Foreign Affairs ministry welcomed today’s gesture but also stated that ‘it is now time to test the implementation’.
“The text of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was finalised with the signatures of the presidents — now it is time to test the implementation of the agreement”, Baghaei said in a statement issued to the Iranian press.

This morning, US President Donald Trump signed a copy of the ceasefire agreement, signaling an end to the months of conflict in the Middle East. The signing happened at France’s Versailles Palace in the presence of French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron. The agreement was also signed by Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian.

Macron confirmed that the signing happened between US and Iran via a post on microblogging platform X. “President Trump signed tonight at Versailles the agreement between Iran and the United States. This agreement paves the way for lasting peace and allows the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. It is an important step in the right direction for our compatriots that will soon enable a decrease in energy prices”, the post read. The signing ceremony was initially scheduled for 19th June, 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland.
US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Key Details of the MoU
The MoU, formally called the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding is actually a 14 point agreement. As part of the agreement, the US “undertakes with regional partners to develop a definitive, mutually agreed plan with at least USD 300 billion for the reconstruction and economic development” of Iran.
And Washington will also lift its naval blockade, which was imposed by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Iranian ports as well as parts of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Both countries have agreed to stop attacking each other.
The US and Iran now have a 60 day window to establish a final ceasefire agreement and negotiate its terms.
Are Israel & Lebanon Included in the Deal?
Yes, the MoU signed today extends to all countries from the war, including Israel and Lebanon. The document clearly mentions an “immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon”.
But according to multiple reports, Israel is not happy about the inclusion of Lebanon in the ceasefire agreement. It continues to launch strikes on Southern Lebanon, with the most recent attack happening in Nabatieh. It is unlikely that either Israel or Lebanon will express acceptance of the agreement.

US President Donald Trump reportedly wants the Strait of Hormuz to reopen as soon as possible. Now, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has confirmed that the waterway will reopen ‘instantly’.
The agreement “shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step, Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade”, he said in an X post.
He also confirmed that the signing ceremony in Geneva will still happen as scheduled, with representatives from Pakistan and Qatar in attendance to “commemorate this landmark event and commence with the technical level talk”.
