US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke by phone with Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leader Bafel Talabani on Tuesday, with discussions focusing on border security, counterterrorism cooperation and economic ties, according to information released by Araghchi’s office.

The call came after Iran-linked media reported missile strikes against positions associated with the Iranian Kurdish Komala group in the Alana Valley near Erbil, in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. The reported strikes could not be independently verified from the information available. The conversation comes as tensions continue across the wider region amid the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict and heightened concerns over activity along Iran’s borders.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Abbas Araghchi, Bafel Talabani Discuss Border Security

According to a post on Araghchi’s Telegram channel, the Iranian foreign minister and Talabani discussed ways to strengthen border security and counterterrorism cooperation, while also addressing economic ties. Iran has previously raised concerns about armed Iranian Kurdish opposition groups operating from bases in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. Iranian officials have repeatedly called for stronger coordination with Iraqi Kurdish authorities to prevent what Tehran describes as destabilising or militant activity along the shared border.

An earlier account from Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Araghchi and Talabani had discussed strengthening security cooperation and preventing destabilising actions along the border.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Reports Claim Missile Strikes Near Erbil

The phone call followed reports from Fars News, which is affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), claiming that three missiles struck positions belonging to the Komala group in the Alana Valley near Erbil.

The reported target is linked to Iranian Kurdish opposition activity in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. However, the strike details, including the extent of any damage or casualties, should be treated cautiously until confirmed by independent sources.

The Kurdistan Region has previously witnessed attacks involving Iranian Kurdish opposition groups and Iranian strikes. Earlier reporting documented attacks on Iranian Kurdish factions in areas of Iraqi Kurdistan, including near Koya and Erbil.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Iran Signals Continued Focus On Strait Of Hormuz

Elsewhere in the Iran war, Tehran has continued to link the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to its demands. Iranian Revolutionary Guard officials have said the strategically important waterway will not fully reopen until Washington meets Tehran’s conditions. Recent reporting has also highlighted Iranian demands connected to the conflict and the future of maritime traffic through the strait.

The development remains closely watched because the Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for global energy shipments, meaning prolonged disruption could have wider consequences for oil markets and international trade.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: UK, Israel Discuss Iran And Regional Security

The latest diplomatic activity also includes contacts between Israel and the United Kingdom. UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said he discussed Iran and other shared security challenges with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar in their first call. Miliband said both sides discussed their shared interest in preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear-armed state. The conversation highlights the continuing diplomatic coordination among Western and regional partners as the conflict remains a major international security concern.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Reports Raise Questions Over Iran’s Role In Yemen

A separate report by Asharq Al-Awsat, citing Yemeni security sources, alleged that IRGC officers are overseeing Houthi military operations in Yemen. The report claimed that Iran’s envoy to the Houthis was involved in supervising an operations room managing military and security affairs in Houthi-controlled areas. These allegations were attributed to the newspaper’s sources and were not independently confirmed. The claims come amid broader concerns that the Iran conflict could continue to affect multiple theatres across the Middle East.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Saudi Arabia Condemns Colombia’s Golan Heights Decision

The regional diplomatic fallout has also extended beyond Iran. Saudi Arabia condemned Colombia’s decision to recognise Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, saying the move conflicts with international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Saudi Arabia reiterated its position that the Golan Heights are occupied Syrian territory and said actions aimed at changing the territory’s legal status do not create legitimacy. The Saudi position was reported by Arab News and other regional outlets on Tuesday.   The dispute adds another layer to already heightened regional tensions involving Israel, Syria and neighbouring Arab states.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: What To Watch Next

The latest developments will be closely monitored for any further escalation around Erbil and Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, particularly involving Iranian Kurdish opposition groups. Attention will also remain on the status of the Strait of Hormuz, diplomatic contacts between Iran and regional powers, and the possibility of the conflict expanding through Iran-aligned groups in Yemen and elsewhere. For now, the reported missile strikes near Erbil remain an attributed claim, while the Araghchi-Talabani conversation underscores the importance Iran and Iraqi Kurdish authorities continue to place on border security and regional stability.
