Iranian lawmaker Esmail Kowsari, a member of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, warned that the United Arab Emirates would ‘pay the price’ for cooperating with the United States.

Speaking to the IRGC-affiliated Fars News Agency, Kowsari accused the UAE of playing a behind-the-scenes role in recent US actions against Iranian infrastructure and said such cooperation would carry a “very heavy” cost. A US defence official told Al Jazeera that Washington did not carry out military strikes inside Iran on Thursday, despite reports of explosions in parts of the country.

The official said the United States remains committed to a diplomatic resolution with Tehran, with technical talks continuing even as recent fighting has complicated negotiations. According to the official, the performance-based memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran is still considered valid from Washington’s perspective, although Iran’s recent conduct has been described as “at an unacceptable performance level”.

The latest developments highlight the fragile state of regional diplomacy. While Lebanon and Israel recently agreed to a US-backed framework for a phased withdrawal, Friday’s drone strike demonstrates how quickly violence can resume on the ground.

Meanwhile, Iran’s warning to the UAE, Washington’s denial of new strikes, and Netanyahu’s declaration that the conflict is ongoing all suggest that efforts to de-escalate the broader US-Israel-Iran crisis remain under significant strain.
