Manouchehr Mottaki, a senior Iranian lawmaker and former foreign minister, has called on Tehran to launch a ground assault on a US military base in the Middle East and capture American troops as hostages.

Speaking in an interview aired on Iranian state media, Mottaki said Iran should infiltrate and capture a US military base in the Middle East and “kidnap hundreds or thousands of US soldiers”
He said such an operation would be retaliation for recent US strikes and alleged threats against Kharg Island and other major Iranian oil facilities in southern Iran.

Manouchehr Mottaki is a veteran Iranian politician who served as Iran’s Foreign Minister from 2005 to 2010. Since 2024, he has been a member of Iran’s parliament and remains an influential conservative voice on foreign policy and national security.
Mottaki has frequently criticised US policy toward Iran and has opposed diplomatic initiatives that he believes undermine the Islamic Republic.

He said, “If the negotiating team still does not believe this, hold a meeting and explain it to them.”
He added, “Islamabad was a plan, a broader scheme of deception and maneuvering by the United States. The Americans had a plan that they thought they could finish within two or three days and achieve their goal, which was to bring an end to the Islamic Republic. They failed.”

According to reports, Mottaki also urged Iranian authorities to pursue legal action against US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over military operations targeting Iran.

Iran International also reported that Mottaki called for “vengeance” following military strikes that reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) called on people in Kuwait and Jordan to demand the removal of American military forces stationed in their countries.
The IRGC statement said, “Honourable and noble people of Kuwait and the holy land of Jordan, it is expected of you, Muslim and noble nations, to expel these child-killers and occupiers from your soil.”
It also urged people, “not to miss any opportunity to destroy the aggressive American institutions and to liberate the Islamic lands from the bases of the American occupiers.”

Mottaki’s comments came shortly after President Donald Trump warned that the United States would intensify attacks if Iran refused to negotiate.
Trump said, “We’re going to hit them very hard tonight. We’re going to hit them very hard tomorrow night. We’re going to hit them very hard the night after.”
He added, “We’ll save energy targets for last. Next week it gets really bad for them.”
Trump further warned, “We’re gonna knock out all their power plants. We’re gonna knock out all their bridges, unless they get to the table and negotiate.”
Referring to ongoing military operations, Trump also said, “We’re beating them up really badly. They have to be beaten up.”
And added, “We’re hitting them very, very hard. We’re hitting every single thing they have along the [Hormuz] shore.”
