Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry has condemned what it called “heinous” Iranian aggressions against Bahrain, calling them a flagrant violation of Bahraini sovereignty.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most strategic waterways globally nearly 20% of total oil consumption across the globe, amounting to about 20 million barrels of crude oil each day, flows through this critical channel. Any form of disturbance in this region will result in serious consequences in terms of pricing in the international oil market. It has been reported by the Saudi shipping company Bahri that their oil tanker called Wadiyan has passed through the channel without any issue, despite getting entangled in an incident on July 7.
The statement came on Wednesday after US Central Command announced air attacks against Iranian targets in retaliation for attacks on the Wadiyan and two other commercial vessels, the M/T Al Rekayyat and M/T Cyprus Prosperity.

After the attacks on the commercial ships, the United States carried out targeted attacks on over 80 targets in the Iranian armed forces, according to US Central Command. It was also alleged that the United States had destroyed over 60 fast attack boats that belonged to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy in the attacks. On the other hand, the Iranian government stated that the Bandar Abbas International Airport had not been damaged despite the reported US attacks in the vicinity.

The EU’s chief representative for foreign policy Kaja Kallas denounced such reports, referring to them as unacceptable and adding that any unrest in the Strait of Hormuz would pose a threat to international fuel supply and navigation. The Gulf ministers are set to meet with EU foreign ministers in order to agree on ways of protecting the shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea. Given the role that the Gulf plays in oil exportation, diplomatic efforts are important in preventing escalation into war which could affect shipping insurance, fuel prices and economic security internationally.

Kaja Kallas, the EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, has said on X that Iran’s attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait are “unacceptable” and that its attacks on ships near the strait violate the MoU and “threaten to disrupt the resumption of energy supplies”.
