According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the blockade targets vessels connected to Iranian ports while allowing commercial ships serving non-Iranian destinations to continue operating through the strategic waterway.

Hours before the blockade took effect, CENTCOM announced a new wave of military strikes against Iranian targets.
In a statement posted on X, the command said, “At 3 pm ET today, US Central Command forces began launching an additional round of strikes against Iran to continue degrading Iranian capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.”
It added, “The strikes are taking place as American forces prepare to resume the naval blockade against Iranian ports and coastal areas.”
CENTCOM did not immediately disclose the number of targets or the full extent of the operation.

Announcing the change on social media, Trump wrote, “I have decided to replace the 20% United States Reimbursement Fee with Trade and Investment Deals that the various Gulf States will be making with the United States.”
The president did not identify which Gulf countries would participate or provide details about the expected investments.
