The US President also argued that Washington should not shoulder the responsibility of protecting one of the world’s busiest energy corridors without greater support from other nations.

He said, “Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait and then others. I spoke to all of them, and they would love to invest more money in the United States at record amounts, and that would be very acceptable. And this way, there’s no fee. I don’t like the concept of a fee, but at the same time, it’s not fair that we’re protecting this Strait for the entire world, for China and everyone. I don’t mind protecting it for China. I don’t mind protecting it for anybody. But it’s unfair that we’re not, in some way, compensated…”

Trump’s remarks came as global attention remained fixed on the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway that carries a significant share of the world’s oil exports.

The regional crisis has also cast doubt on the proposed Israel-Lebanon framework agreement announced in June 2026.

Although the plan aims to establish peaceful relations, secure Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon and disarm Hezbollah, major obstacles remain. Hezbollah has rejected the proposal, while continued Israeli military operations have complicated efforts to implement the agreement.

Experts note that previous ceasefire agreements between Israel and Hezbollah repeatedly reduced violence only temporarily before fresh fighting resumed, making the future of the latest proposal uncertain.
