US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: A growing number of US lawmakers are challenging President Donald Trump’s military strategy in Iran after the House of Representatives approved a resolution that seeks to limit American involvement in the conflict.

The measure passed the House in a narrow 215-208 vote on June 3, reflecting increasing concern among both Democrats and some Republicans about the direction of US military operations in the Middle East. If enacted, the resolution would require Trump to obtain congressional approval for continued military action or withdraw US forces from the conflict.

While the vote marks a significant political statement, the proposal still faces major hurdles before it can become law.

What is the US House Resolution for the Iran War?

The resolution invokes Congress’s constitutional authority over declarations of war and military engagement. Lawmakers supporting the measure argue that Congress—not the president alone—should decide whether the United States remains involved in an extended conflict with Iran.

However, the legislation still requires approval from the Republican-controlled Senate. Even if senators pass it, lawmakers would likely need a two-thirds majority in both chambers to overcome a potential presidential veto.

As a result, political analysts view the measure as a powerful message rather than an immediate legal barrier to military action.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Bipartisan Support Signals Unease Over Iran War

The vote exposed divisions within Trump’s Republican Party.

Republican Representatives Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett, and Warren Davidson joined Democrats in supporting the resolution. Democratic Representative Jared Golden also backed the measure after previously opposing similar efforts.

Supporters of the resolution argue that lawmakers must defend Congress’s constitutional role in decisions involving war. “Congress alone declares war, that’s something certainly we need to be protective of,” Barrett, a Republican from Michigan, said.

Asked if he was worried about retribution from Trump for his vote, Barrett said, “I vote my conscience for what I think is right and am willing to accept that.”

The bipartisan support reflects growing concern in Washington over the political, economic, and military consequences of a prolonged confrontation with Iran.

Democrats Call Vote a Turning Point for the Conflict

Democratic leaders described the House vote as a major challenge to the administration’s approach. Representative Gregory Meeks, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, argued that the conflict has failed to achieve its stated goals while increasing costs at home.

“A significant bipartisan rebuke of President Trump’s illegal and costly war in Iran and the first step toward ending it once and for all”.

Meeks also said, “The passage of this [measure] today signals a significant turning point: more and more Republicans are listening to their constituents who do not want another open-ended war in the Middle East.”

Supporters believe rising fuel prices, economic uncertainty, and growing public concern have increased pressure on lawmakers to act.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: War With Iran Continues Despite Ceasefire Efforts

The congressional vote comes as the United States and Iran continue to exchange military strikes despite previous ceasefire efforts.

The conflict intensified after the US and Israeli attacks on Iran earlier this year. Tehran responded with strikes against Israel and US-aligned countries in the Gulf region while disrupting shipping routes near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy corridors.

Although Washington and Tehran announced an initial ceasefire agreement in April, both sides have continued military operations, casting doubt on the truce’s durability.

Recent Iranian strikes on Kuwait and US military responses have further complicated efforts to restore stability.

Trump Says Peace Negotiations Are Progressing

Despite ongoing military action, President Trump remains optimistic about negotiations. Speaking at the White House, Trump suggested that diplomatic efforts could soon produce a breakthrough.

“We hit them pretty hard the night before, and actually last night,” Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday, referring to strikes in Iran. “Some people would say they were slightly provoked because we took a strong action for a different reason, so they were reciprocating.”

The president also emphasised that his administration prefers a negotiated settlement. “In theory, they’re pretty close to signing a paper; we’ve actually gotten along with them very well.”

Trump added that members of his administration hope to resolve the crisis through diplomacy rather than prolonged warfare, saying they want a deal “without killing everybody”.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Senate Vote Could Determine Next Phase for Iran War

Attention now shifts to the Senate, where lawmakers will decide whether the House resolution advances further.

Even if the measure ultimately fails, the vote demonstrates growing concern among lawmakers over America’s military role in the Middle East. It also signals that questions about presidential war powers and congressional oversight will remain central to the debate as the conflict in Iran continues.

For now, the House vote stands as one of the strongest political challenges yet to Trump’s handling of the crisis and a reminder that support for continued military action is no longer unanimous in Washington.
