US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: The fragile calm between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi rebels has come under fresh strain after the Iran-backed group announced a maritime blockade against the Kingdom. The decision follows a new exchange of missile strikes and air attacks that ended years of relative calm between the two sides.

The move has also raised concerns about the security of commercial shipping in the Red Sea, one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Houthis Announce Maritime Embargo on Saudi Arabia

On Monday, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree declared that the group was imposing an immediate maritime embargo on Saudi Arabia.

According to Saree, the decision was taken in response to what the Houthis described as Saudi Arabia’s long-running blockade of Yemen’s ports and airports.

“declare a maritime embargo against the criminal Saudi enemy, based on the equation of ‘an eye for an eye,’ effective immediately upon the issuance of this statement.”

The Houthis did not specify how or where the maritime embargo would be enforced.

The Houthi leadership said restrictions imposed on Yemen over the years had caused severe humanitarian suffering. Saree also referred to recent attacks on infrastructure controlled by the group.

“Our people cannot endure this unjust siege and aggression without taking a stand… They have the full right to confront this unjust siege and aggression by all available means.”

In another statement, he warned that the group was prepared to respond to any further escalation.

“We affirm the right of our great people to respond to the blockade with a blockade, and to respond to all escalation with all escalation.”

He further added, “The Yemeni Armed Forces affirm their complete readiness for all options, and any foolish act committed by the reckless Saudi enemy through all escalation will be met with a comprehensive and decisive escalation, by Allah’s will and power.”

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: How the Latest Escalation Began?

Tensions rose sharply after the Houthis accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport, which remains under rebel control.

In response, the Houthis launched missile and drone attacks targeting Abha International Airport in southern Saudi Arabia.

Saudi authorities said their air defence systems intercepted ballistic missile threats aimed at the kingdom.

The exchange marked one of the most significant confrontations between the two sides since the 2022 truce, which had largely reduced cross-border attacks.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Why the Red Sea Matters

Security experts warn that the Houthi announcement could have major consequences for international trade.

The Red Sea serves as a critical shipping corridor connecting Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Since shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has already faced disruptions in recent months due to tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, many Gulf countries have increasingly relied on Red Sea routes for energy exports.

Any disruption in the region could affect global oil supplies, shipping costs and international trade.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Background – Yemen’s Civil War

Yemen’s conflict began in 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa, forcing the internationally recognised government into exile.

Saudi Arabia led a military coalition in 2015 to restore the Yemeni government.

Although an informal truce brokered in 2022 significantly reduced fighting, recent regional conflicts—including the Israel-Gaza war and growing US-Iran tensions—have increased instability across the Middle East.

US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: What Could Happen Next?

The Houthis have indicated they are prepared to expand their military response if tensions continue to rise.

While Saudi Arabia has not yet officially responded to the latest maritime blockade announcement, analysts say any prolonged confrontation could further destabilise the region and increase risks for commercial vessels operating in the Red Sea.

With diplomatic efforts already under pressure, the latest escalation threatens to reverse years of relative calm and could have wider consequences for regional security and global energy markets.
