Recently, Itamar Ben-Gvir, the national security minister of Israel, bluntly rejected the new ceasefire agreement of Iran and the US. This is Israel’s first official reaction to the newly reached peace deal.

Considering the recent activities of Israel, its dismissal of the recent ceasefire is not really surprising. In a post on microblogging platform X, Ben-Gvir stated “Trump’s agreement does not bind us. Israel is not subject to the United States, and we are an independent and sovereign nation”.
He then went on to add that despite being “grateful to the US”, Israel is “not a Banana Republic”. Ben Gvir also stated that Israel will respond to any attacks that originate from Lebanon. “We must make it clear: Every launch of a drone, UAV, or missile toward Israel from Lebanon will lead to an Israeli strike in Dahiya”, he warned.
Israel has perceived the Lebanese militant body Hezbollah as a threat to its national interests. And Hezbollah has launched multiple attacks on Israel over the past few weeks.

The US and Iran reached a 14 point memorandum of understanding (MoU) earlier today, after which both countries agreed to end all aggression. Some key aspects of the deal include the reopening of Strait of Hormuz, US’ release of frozen Iranian assets and the lifting of naval blockade on Iran’s ports. A more formal agreement will be signed on 19th June, 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Multiple leaders from across the globe hailed the ceasefire agreement between US and Iran. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takachi stated that that “free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz will be ensured in practice, and that a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear issue and other matters will be reached as soon as possible.”
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke similarly to Takachi and expressed hope for ‘toll free navigation’ of the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron called for “its swift and full implementation by all belligerents”.
A spokesperson for António Guterres, the Secretary General of UN also welcomed the move and stated that “This represents a critical step towards the peaceful settlement of the conflict”.

The ceasefire between US and Iran is a 14 point memorandum of understanding (MoU), that has established a temporary truce. As part of the deal, the US agreed to release frozen Iranian assets, reportedly worth $25 Billion.
Both countries have also agreed to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz waterway and allow free passage for all vessels or ships. The US will also lift all of its sanctions on Iranian oil trade.
