Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu landed in the US this morning. While in Washington, he will meet US President Donald Trump & likely push him to ‘‘sell the idea of regime change again in Tehran”.
Ever since the war, Israel has pushed for a potential regime change in Iran and said that the current government in Tehran poses an existential threat. According to Alex Vatanka from the Middle East Institute, , “I don’t think it will go down well with President Trump because he doesn’t want to do that. Politically, in the US, this war is hugely unpopular, so it remains to be seen what Prime Minister Netanyahu gets out of this meeting”.
It is important to note that Israel has never supported the MoU signed between the US and Iran. Israel is reportedly unhappy with the US about the deal since it has ‘‘a different sense of threat perception when it comes to Iran”. Trump will also convene with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in a separate meeting today.

Last month, Israel & Lebanon signed a historic agreement called the ‘Trilateral Framework Agreement’ in Washington DC. As part of the agreement, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) agreed to withdraw from some parts of Southern Lebanon & the IDF teamed up with the Lebanese army for the creation of two special ‘pilot zones’.
Now, a senior US official has spoken up about the next phase of talks between both and said they will resume from August 4 in Rome, Italy. “In Rome, technical groups will focus on advancing the full implementation of the framework agreement” signed between Israel and Lebanon in June, the official said, adding that the talks will “include expanding the pilot zone process, resolving all outstanding border issues, and working on a comprehensive peace and security agreement”, the official said to news agency AFP.
They also said that as a part of the framework deal, a ‘sequenced process’ will be followed, which will grant the Lebanese army “effective sovereign authority over all Lebanese territory”, after which Israel will start to ‘‘progressively deploy’’ from regions in Lebanon where the IDF is currently active.

Ever since the start of the war, Iran has tried to exercise strict control over the Strait of Hormuz and even closed it for a long time. Now, it has reaffirmed its authority over the strategic waterway.
While speaking in Parliament, Hamidreza Haji Babaei, the deputy speaker of the Iranian parliament declared that Tehran would ‘never reach an understanding’ with Washington regarding the Strait of Hormuz and described the waterway as the ‘pinnacle of our power’. He also praised Hezbollah for showing loyalty to the current Iranian regime and claimed that the US & Israel were forced to retreat, as per local news agency ISNA.

This morning, Qasim al Aboudi, the national security adviser of Iran made a shocking claim regarding Ukraine. He said that new intel points to ‘Ukrainian interference in Iraq’ and claimed that ‘cells belonging to Ukraine’ allegedly conducted bombings of government buildings in Iraq. Ukraine has not responded to the claims so far but the country’s president Volodymyr Zelensky might address them after his meeting with Donald Trump today.
