US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Middle Eastern tensions reached new levels this Wednesday after US President Donald Trump, stepped up the rhetoric directed towards Iran, stating that “the millions of barrels of oil” have been taken off the Iranian supply chain. In light of all the developments, there seems to be an increasing tension between the United States, Israel and Iran, as well as the Gulf States sounding the alarm bell about regional instability while oil prices are quite high at present: Brent crude stands at about $93 per barrel, while WTI oil is close to $90.

In an interview with the media, Trump says that if the tensions keep escalating, then Washington will not hesitate to take tougher steps against Iran. He stated that Iran had delayed the talks for too long and that any further military strikes may be more severe.

“We’re going to be attacking them very hard,” Trump said, reiterating his previous statement that Iran will “be paying a heavy price.” This comes after a series of military interactions in the Gulf region.

The disruption of Iran’s capacity to transport its crude oil was one of the most impressive statements made by the president. “We’ve been taking out millions of barrels of oil—millions of barrels,” said Trump.

According to him, this effort managed to stop the cost of crude from increasing to an extremely high level while Trump mentioned that oil would cost around $250 per barrel without America’s actions, although experts dispute this statement. Despite this, the energy markets continue to be very fragile regarding events related to the Strait of Hormuz, a passageway through which about 20% of world oil travels.

A US military operation in the Gulf of Oman was reported again while CENTCOM reported that the US military had rendered the Palau-flagged oil tanker M/T Settebello incapacitated, accusing it of trying to carry Iranian oil.

According to CENTCOM, an aircraft of the US military used precision-guided weapons against the ship’s engine room despite several warnings issued. The military further added that from mid-April, they had disabled eight vessels, rerouted 134 vessels and allowed 42 humanitarian ships to pass through the area.

Attacks by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have been carried out on targets associated with America within the region after the latter’s strikes in southern Iran and the Iranian foreign minister has accused the United States of increasing tensions purposefully.

According to Araghchi, “the US decided to test our resolve.” Furthermore, he added, “the Iranian military will leave no attack and threat unanswered.”

This means that Iran will not submit itself to pressure from the international community.

Saudi Arabia was highly critical of Iran’s missile strikes on Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, the strike was considered a “clear violation” of the sovereignty of the neighbors while Riyadh has said that escalation through the use of military force is not only threatening peace regionally and internationally but also hampering diplomatic moves to restore peace in the region.

In an unprecedented move towards international solidarity, the US, UK, along with 20 other countries, came together to issue a collective statement against Iranian security apparatus, which, according to this coalition of countries, was involved in attacks against dissenters, journalists and Jewish and Israeli groups living outside of Iran. 

The representatives said their countries were still committed to safeguarding their citizens and communities against such transnational threats.
