Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a fresh warning to the United States, claiming that Tehran could respond with attacks on 20 targets for every two or three targets struck by US forces.
IRGC spokesman Brig. Gen. Hossein Mohebi made the remarks on Wednesday while outlining what Iran says would be required to bring the ongoing conflict to an end. His comments were reported by Iranian pro-regime outlet Akharin Khabar.
The statement comes after the US military said it had destroyed five Iranian oil tankers following what Washington described as recent attempts by Iran to attack US warships with ballistic missiles.
Iran Threatens Larger-Scale Retaliation
According to Mohebi, Iran can respond at a significantly larger scale if US forces continue striking Iranian targets.
He claimed that if the United States attacks two or three Iranian targets, Iran would respond by targeting 20.
“We have reached a point where if the enemy hits two or three of our targets, we will respond firmly with 20 targets,” Mohebi said, according to the Iranian report.
The statement represents another escalation in rhetoric between Tehran and Washington as military tensions continue to rise.
IRGC Claims Long-Range Strike Capability
Mohebi also claimed that Iranian forces can strike targets hundreds of kilometers away.
He said Iran can hit targets at a distance of around 400 kilometers (250 miles). He further claimed that Iranian forces had previously targeted a US aircraft carrier at a distance of about 500 kilometers (310 miles).
The claims were made by an Iranian military official and have not been independently verified in the material available.
Iran Lists Conditions for Ending War
The IRGC spokesman also outlined several conditions that Iran says must be met if the conflict is to end.
According to the statement, Iran wants the United States and its allies to completely stop the war and refrain from issuing further threats.
Tehran also called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon and an end to what it described as the blockade of Yemen.
Another major demand involves Iran’s frozen assets. Mohebi said approximately $24 billion in Iranian frozen assets must be released.
Iran also demanded that foreign powers stop interfering with its nuclear and missile capabilities.
US Says Five Iranian Oil Tankers Were Destroyed
The latest Iranian warning follows a statement from the US military’s Central Command.
CENTCOM said Tuesday night that American forces had destroyed five Iranian oil tankers. The US military said the action came in response to recent Iranian attempts to attack American warships using ballistic missiles.
The development adds another layer to the confrontation, with energy shipments and maritime routes becoming increasingly important elements of the conflict.
Tensions Continue Between Washington and Tehran
The latest statements indicate that neither side appears ready to soften its military position.
Iran is warning that any further US strikes could trigger a much larger response, while Washington has continued to emphasize its military actions as responses to threats against American forces.
The competing claims could increase concerns about further escalation in the region, particularly if attacks expand to additional military, energy or maritime targets.
For now, Iran’s stated conditions for ending the war remain demands put forward by Tehran, while the US position and any potential diplomatic response could determine whether the latest escalation leads to further military action or negotiations.
