US-Israel-Iran War Live Update: US President Donald Trump has expressed interest in holding direct talks with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, signalling a possible diplomatic opening at a time when ceasefire negotiations remain fragile, and tensions continue across the Middle East.

Speaking during an interview on the New York Post’s “Pod Force One” podcast, Trump suggested that communication channels between Washington and Tehran remain active despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding Khamenei’s public absence and the broader regional conflict.

His remarks come as Iran and the United States continue to exchange warnings over ceasefire negotiations, while fresh security incidents in the Gulf region highlight the fragile nature of the current situation.

Why did Donald Trump want to meet with Mojtaba Khamenei?

During the interview, Trump indicated that Mojtaba Khamenei remains an important figure within Iran’s leadership despite reports about his health and limited public appearances.

“He’s involved, absolutely. Yeah, I think they have a lot of respect for him,” Trump said during the interview with New York Post columnist Miranda Devine.

Trump also acknowledged the challenges involved in communicating with the Iranian leadership. “I haven’t had the privilege of meeting him… If you believe the stories, he’s missing a lot of different parts,” Trump told Devine.

“They say he is approving, because that’s the way it has been for a long, long time. His father and then he, I guess it’s a succession. But we seem to be getting along quite well.”

When asked whether he would meet Khamenei personally, Trump left the door open for future talks. “Yeah, I’d like to meet him. I’d love to meet everybody. I would like to meet him, and we probably will meet at some point, depending on how it all works out,” he said.

Where is Mojtaba Khamenei?

Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly since the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel escalated earlier this year. Reports have suggested that he was injured during the opening phase of military operations that also reportedly killed his father, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

However, Iranian authorities have provided limited public information regarding his condition. Despite his absence, Trump indicated that he believes Khamenei continues to play a role in major political and strategic decisions inside Iran.

Iran Warns US Against ‘Overreach’ in Ceasefire Negotiations

While Trump discussed the possibility of future engagement, Iranian officials delivered a firm message regarding ongoing ceasefire discussions.

Mohsen Rezaee, a senior Iranian political figure and former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, warned that Tehran would not accept additional pressure from Washington during negotiations.

“The response to every shot and aggression will be a barrage of missiles and drones,” Rezaee said.

“History will not turn back, and the aggressor will be swiftly punished.”

“Neither in negotiations nor in the ceasefire process will we allow America to overreach,” Rezaee added.

His comments reflect continuing distrust between the two sides, even as diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes.

US-Israel-Iran War Live Update: Kuwait Airport Open or Closed after Iran Attack?

Regional tensions remained visible on Wednesday as Kuwait International Airport resumed operations from Terminal 4 after technical teams completed damage assessments following Iranian missile and drone strikes.

Airport authorities confirmed that flights operated by Kuwait Airways restarted after safety inspections. The airport had temporarily halted operations after infrastructure damage caused by the attack.

The incident underscored concerns that the broader conflict could continue to affect civilian infrastructure and regional transportation networks despite ongoing ceasefire efforts.

Trump Links End of Conflict to Lower Energy Prices

Trump also discussed the economic impact of the conflict, arguing that energy markets remain one of the main drivers of inflation in the United States. The president suggested that gasoline prices could fall further if tensions in the Middle East ease and the conflict moves toward a more stable resolution.

His comments come as global energy markets continue to monitor developments across the Gulf region, where military activity and shipping disruptions have periodically affected oil prices.

US-Israel-Iran War Live Update: What Happens Next?

Trump’s willingness to meet Mojtaba Khamenei could add a new diplomatic dimension to ongoing US-Iran contacts. However, continued military incidents, disagreements over ceasefire terms and sharp rhetoric from both sides indicate that significant challenges remain before any breakthrough becomes possible.

For now, both Washington and Tehran appear to be balancing diplomatic outreach with strong public messaging, leaving the future of negotiations uncertain as regional tensions continue to evolve.
