US President Donald Trump remains in “excellent health” and is “fully fit to carry out all duties” of the presidency, an official memo released by the White House on Friday revealed. The assessment followed a routine physical examination conducted for Trump earlier this week at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre. The US president had characterised the visit to the hospital as going “perfectly.”
Despite the “excellent” report authored by White House physician Dr Sean Barbabella, the release has reignited discourse on whether the physical condition of the US President remains perfect as he approaches his 80th birthday. While the memo offers a detailed breakdown of various health indicators, it notably omits the specific context regarding recent visible marks and ailments that have previously drawn public attention.
“President Trump remains in excellent health… Cognitive and physical performance are excellent. He is fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”

Dietary Adjustment Recommendations, Obesity Counselling?
The health report, shared by the While House, details that US President Trump weighs 238 pounds, indicating an increase of approximately 14 pounds since his last documented examination in April 2025. Standing 6-foot-3, Trump’s current body mass index places him near the threshold often associated with “obesity” by medical standards.
In response to these findings, Dr Barbabella noted that he provided Trump with comprehensive “preventive counselling,” which included specific guidance on dietary adjustments, the necessity for increased physical activity, and a target of continued weight loss. The memo further stated that Trump maintains an active schedule, including high-level meetings and public engagements, which the physician credited as supporting his overall well-being.
Recurring Health Concerns
The medical memo sought to provide clarity on several persistent health issues that have been the subject of speculation over the past year. Regarding the bruising often visible on Trump’s hands, Dr Barbabella attributed the condition to “minor soft tissue irritation” stemming from frequent handshaking combined with the ongoing regimen of aspirin therapy for cardiovascular prevention. The doctor described the bruising as a “common and benign effect” of the medication.
Similarly, the report addressed Trump’s diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that can cause blood to pool in the lower limbs. Dr Barbabella confirmed that while “slight lower leg swelling” persists, there has been a documented improvement compared to the status of his legs last year. Additionally, the physician reported that the president’s cardiac function remains normal, with AI-enhanced testing estimating his cardiac age to be 14 years younger than his chronological age.
Omissions on Skin Rash Condition?
Despite the detailed reporting on cardiac and physical function, critics have pointed to the absence of information regarding a skin rash that appeared on Trump’s neck earlier this spring as well as on his hand. While the White House had previously described the irritation as a side effect of a common preventive skin cream, the current dermatological assessment makes no mention of the condition or the treatment involved.
This lack of comprehensive detail has sparked a debate regarding the transparency of presidential health disclosures. Historically, Trump has been cautious about sharing detailed medical records, and previous assessments have occasionally faced scepticism from medical experts regarding the methodology and data provided.
What is the Overall Assessment?
As part of the evaluation, Trump underwent a series of neurological screenings, including the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. According to the White House memo, he scored a 30 out of 30, which the physician described as demonstrating “normal mental status.”
The exam, which included input from 22 specialists and involved various cancer screenings and cardiovascular assessments, marks the fourth such check-up of the president’s second term. With Trump’s 80th birthday approaching on June 14, the White House projected a message of stability, asserting that his health metrics align with the requirements of his high office.
