Cops in Utah have arrested Peter Michael Larson in connection with the grisly mall stabbing that happened a few days ago. The suspect has been detained on charges of attempted murder and unlawful use of a dangerous weapon, as per jail records. Larsen allegedly told investigators that his crime was motivated out of religious hatred.

Peter Michael Larson is the prime suspect in the Utah mall stabbing that took place in West Valley City. larsen is a 48 year old man with an established criminal history.
In 2022, Larsen was shot by police officers in Salt Lake City after he aimed a shotgun at them and threatened to shoot firefighters who had arrived to address a fire at his residence. He survived the incident and was found guilty of assaulting a police officer, classified as a second-degree felony, and was sentenced to a term ranging from one to 15 years at the Utah State Prison.
While earlier that year, Larsen was convicted of aggravated assault and a third-degree felony, for pointing a firearm at a security guard at a gentleman’s club in South Salt Lake after being ejected from the premises in a separate case.

On 13th July, 2026, the suspect Peter Michael Larsen approached a kiosk and asked the operator about his name and religion, with one of the questions being – ‘Are you muslim’? Larsen requested water from the Indian origin Muslim man & when the latter turned to get water, Larsen stabbed him 15 times.
Officers who arrived at the scene discovered the victim with numerous stab wounds and “bleeding profusely,”. The victim was then rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Syed Sohail Uddin, a 37 year old Muslim man from India has been identified as the victim in the Utah mall stabbing case. Uddin worked as a trusted kiosk manager at the mall & was described by his superior Adnan Mohammed as someone who was ‘always smiling, laughing, and working very hard’. He was the main breadwinner for his family. Uddin is still hospitalised and is currently in critical condition.

The West Valley City Police Department has arrested Larsen on the charges of attempted murder and unlawful use of a dangerous weapon. As per a recently disclosed court affidavit, Larsen allegedly targeted the victim because of the victim’s religion.
The cops have warned that the suspect poses “a substantial danger to the public if released based on his violent actions, … ideologies and pre-planned mass casualty events”.
During questioning, Larsen confessed to the investigators that he ‘targeted the victim with the intent to kill him due to his religion’. He also expressed his intent to kill other Muslims due to religious hatred.
