Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has claimed that he recently met Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, whose location and health status have become public discussion points since the start of the Iran war, which began this year.

Pezehskian described the meeting through his statement, which he delivered on Iranian state television, when he said Mojtaba Khamenei showed him a “humble and sincere approach,” but he did not disclose the time or place of their encounter.

Who is Mojtaba Khamenei?

Mojtaba Khamenei is the second son of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He was born in 1969 in Mashhad, Iran, and became a Shia cleric who studied at Qom Seminary before he emerged as a key figure who secretly controlled Iran’s political and security system.

For years, Mojtaba was seen as a potential successor to his father because of his strong connections with Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members and conservative clerical circles. Reports indicate he played a major role in Iran’s domestic security operations and political decision-making process despite his lack of substantial elected positions.

After Ali Khamenei died in 2026 during the Iran conflict, Mojtaba Khamenei received his appointment as Supreme Leader from Iran’s Assembly of Experts.

Why Are People Asking ‘Where is Mojtaba Khamenei?’

Since the start of the Iran-US and Israel conflict on February 28, the Iranian Supreme Leader has not shown himself to the public in a verifiable manner. Since then, rumors about Mojtaba Khamenei have emerged online claiming he suffered from major injuries, is hiding, or is receiving undisclosed medical care.

Was Mojtaba Khamenei Injured in the Airstrikes?

The Iranian official Qomi confirmed through Fars News Agency about Mojtaba Khamenei’s presence inside a building that attackers targeted during the battle. He survived the attack because he had already exited to the courtyard when the building collapsed.

The official maintained that the Iranian leader shows a complete health status while he continues to handle governmental duties.

The international reports show two different sets of information about the situation.

The New York Times reported that the bombings resulted in grave injuries for Mojtaba Khamenei, yet he maintained full mental capacity. The report also claimed that he suffered serious injuries while losing close family members during the strikes.

Why Has Mojtaba Khamenei Stayed Out of Public View?

The Supreme Leader now operates under heightened security measures because Iranian authorities believe that Israel will attempt to track his movements.

According to the reports:

Access to Mojtaba Khamenei is reported to be heavily restricted.
Even senior officials from the IRGC are said to avoid visiting him directly.
President Masoud Pezeshkian, who previously worked as a heart surgeon, has taken charge of overseeing his complete medical treatment.

The existing claims lack independent verification, which proves the extent of his injury together with his precise location.

Has Iran Officially Revealed Mojtaba Khamenei’s Location?

The Iranian authorities have not yet revealed where Mojtaba Khamenei currently resides. The officials continue to assert his existence while claiming he operates governmental duties, yet he has not made any public appearances after the recent conflict.
