This year, there has been an exodus of Democrat members from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). As a result, two seats remain open and now, President Trump has nominated lawyer Danielle Thumann Severs to fill one of those.

US President Donald Trump has nominated Danielle Thumann Severs for one of the two open seats on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). If her nomination is confirmed by the Senate, Severs would be the third Republican on the commission.
According to FCC rules, only 3 members from the same political party can serve. Currently Anna Gomez is the only Democrat on the commission. Although her tenure ended in July, Gomez can stay on board until either her successor is confirmed or until the end of the next session of Congress.
