Earlier this week, acting attorney general Todd Blanche decided to scrap President Donadl Trump’s divisive anti weaponisation fund. Subsequently, he was able to sway some skeptics to his side, namely Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis. However, many remain highly doubtful and Lisa Murkowski has become the latest one to join that list.
Lisa Murkowski’s Latest Statement
This afternoon, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski took to microblogging platform X to share her opinion about acting attorney general Todd Blanche, which seemed to be set in stone.
“I have had numerous constructive meetings with Mr. Blanche and he comes across as decent and capable. Ultimately, however, I will oppose his nomination”, the post said. Murkowski declined to elaborate on why she opposes Blanche’s nomination but his candidature has ignited many doubts.
Previously fellow Republican senators Susan Collins (from Maine) and Mitch McConnell (from Kentucky) had also expressed their opposition to the nomination of Blanche. And a rejection from any other Republican would mean that Blache’s nomination confirmation will likely either fail or be forced to put on hold.

The fate of the final confirmation vote from the Senate remains up in the air as all 47 Democrats have opposed him, and Republican Senators Susan Collins, Mitch McConnell and Lisa Murkowski have officially defected, Senate Majority Leader John Thune cannot hold the vote until he is 100% certain he has the backing of the final undecided Republican, Senator Bill Cassidy.
