Recently, the Army Chief of Pakistan, Field Marshal Asim Munir held  the private family wedding that has caught the attention of media. His daughter, Mahnoor, married her cousin, Captain Abdul Rehman Qasim, the son of Munir’s brother Qasim Munir, on December 26 at the Army Headquarters.

Who is Mahnoor?

Mahnoor is the third daughter of Asim Munir and Syeda Irum Asim. She is reportedly tied to her cousin Abdul Rehman Qasim, who is the former captain in the army of Pakistan and is now a part of the administration. Abdul Rehman is the son of Qasim Munir, the brother of Asim Munir. Munir has four daughters and Mahnoor is the third one.

Asim Munir: The Unconventional Army Chief

Asim Munir belongs to Rawalpindi, Pakistan.  Asim Munir comes from a family known for religious scholarship, with several members having memorized the entire Quran. Munir himself memorized the Quran while posted in Saudi Arabia as a Lieutenant-Colonel, making him the first army chief in Pakistan’s history to have done so. His family is locally referred to as a hafiz family.

Mahnoor Wedding Ceremony Highlights

Although the wedding was a private event, it was unique in the sense that it was a very exclusive wedding, and the presence of the high management of Pakistan was a clear indication of the fact that it was a political wedding.

Who Attended the Mahnoor Wedding?

The wedding was represented by the most senior officials from Pakistan's civil and military leadership. These senior officials include the Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz, and the former head of the ISI secret service organization, as well as major generals. The wedding took place at the Army Chief’s residence, close to the Pakistan Army Headquarters. The wedding took place with an emphasis on discretion.

It is suggested that the marriage could be an avenue that helps to build bonds between the family members in the top command of the military institution, which could ensure their loyalty and integrity. The fact that the top government in the country attends the Army Chief’s residence for a family event is a symbol that commands the respect of the political class in the political institution of Pakistan.
