Investigators continue searching for answers in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie after the FBI released new surveillance photos and video showing a masked individual outside her Arizona home. The release triggered a wave of online speculation, with some social media users claiming to identify the person despite authorities confirming that no suspect has been officially named.
Officials have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims while the investigation remains active.
Law enforcement released four black-and-white images and two short video clips showing a masked individual wearing gloves and carrying a backpack. The footage appears to show the person approaching the front door and tampering with a Nest doorbell camera on the morning Nancy Guthrie disappeared. Investigators said the individual may have been armed, with video showing what looked like a holstered gun.
Officials explained that investigators recovered the footage from previously inaccessible backend data during a digital recovery effort. Authorities hope the public will help identify the individual by recognizing clothing, movements, or items seen in the footage.
Shortly after the FBI released the images, unverified claims spread online suggesting that the masked person resembled Savannah Guthrie’s former husband, journalist Mark Orchard. Some posts also speculated that another family member’s spouse could be involved.
One user wrote, “That is without question Savannah’s ex-husband Mark Orchard,” while another added, “Look at the eyes and mustache/mouth.”
However, investigators have not substantiated any of these claims, and officials have not identified the individual seen in the surveillance images. Law enforcement agencies emphasized that social media theories do not reflect official findings.
Mark Orchard is Savannah Guthrie’s first husband and a veteran television journalist. He currently works as a senior broadcast producer for the investigative program Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson. Before that, he worked at Al Jazeera for about a decade and previously served as a White House producer for the BBC during the early 2000s.
Orchard and Guthrie met while covering the Michael Jackson trial in 2005. They married the same year and divorced in 2009. Savannah Guthrie later described that period as emotionally difficult, but she has since remarried and built a family life with her current husband, Michael Feldman.
Reports indicate that the Guthrie family reviewed the surveillance images but said they do not recognize the person shown. After learning that the family could not identify the individual, investigators decided to release the photos publicly in hopes that someone might provide a useful tip.
Savannah Guthrie and Mark Orchardand was divorced in 2009, but Guthrie didn't talk about this. But in 2025, she opened up about the divorce, and she called the split horrible.
“When I was 36, I got divorced. I wasn’t married long. That was a huge disappointment,” she said. “I was pretty sure that I had lost my opportunity [to have kids] and more or less ruined my life. All I ever really wanted was to fall in love, be a mom, and have a family. I don’t know if it’s acceptable to admit these days, but that’s kind of how I was. I wanted to do something important and meaningful, but I really wanted a family.”
Guthrie met her current husband, Michael Feldman, in 2008. The two got married in 2014 and have two children, a daughter, Vale, and a son, Charley, together.
Authorities confirm that Nancy Guthrie remains missing and that the investigation continues across multiple agencies. Law enforcement continues reviewing digital evidence, public tips, and witness statements while examining several persons of interest. Officials urge the public to rely on verified updates and to report credible information rather than speculate online as investigators work to solve the case.
