Austin Bar Shooting: On Sunday morning, the event that shook the city happened in the Backyard Beer Garden in Buford, Texas, where two were killed and 14 wounded in a mass shooting. The police confirmed to shoot the suspect dead. The FBI is looking into the incident as a possible terrorism event, and speculation about it spread online by far-right influencer Laura Loomer where the first impressions of the situation were covered on social media and the involvement rates exceeded 12 million impressions in 24 hours.
The suspected shooter is a 53-year-old Senegalese-born naturalized U.S. citizen named Ndiaga Diagne, sources of the law enforcement department told the CBS News. Diagne had spent a few months in New York in the early 2000s and had a criminal record, including unauthorized vending in the year 2001. In 2013 and 2016, he became a U.S. citizen and asylum seeker respectively. Diagne circled through the multiple times of Buford with a large SUV before firing through the driver window.
Police Chief Austin Davis confirmed that the shooting happened at about 2 a.m. on Sunday in the area near the University of Texas campus. Davis told the story of Diagne who parked his car in the Sixth Street and stepped out and opened fire at passersby. By the responding officers neutralizing the suspect in less than a minute, the suspect was neutralized. Fourteen of them were hospitalized, three of them in critical condition and two victims and the gunman died at the scene. FBI Special Agent Alex Doran mentioned that there are signs that might suggest terrorism but the investigation is still on.
Far-right messenger Laura Loesser announced that the shooter was Ndiaga Diagne, a Senegalese-origin naturalized United States citizen. She and stories of the New York Post indicated that there may be some linkage to ideological factors. Although Loomer has a record of misinformation, it is consistent with preliminary law enforcement sources but has not been confirmed on its own.

Reports in the media referred to sources that the shooting could have been part of the recent U.S.-Israel assault that killed the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. FBI and the local police are investigating possible ideological or terrorism-related causes.
