British rapper Nathan Tokosi, known by his stage name DigDat, received a life sentence because he committed a violent drive-by shooting in Notting Hill, which is located in west London. The attack left the victim critically injured and required two life-saving surgeries to save his life.
Who Is DigDat?
Nathan Tokosi, 26, hails from Deptford in south-east London. The rapper known as DigDat achieved success in his music career, but he has shown violent behavior since he was a child. His criminal record includes assaults at age 11 and a stabbing at age 13, which resulted in him receiving a seven-year youth detention sentence followed by three years of extended licence detention.
Why He Is Jailed?
Tokosi received a conviction for attempted murder and multiple firearms offences through two Old Bailey trials. On 20 November 2023, he fired six shots at 27-year-old Daniel Offei‑Ntow through a car window, deliberately aiming at his head and body. CCTV footage showed Tokosi circling the area in a stolen Audi before the shooting. The court imposed a life sentence on him, which required a minimum of 24 years to be served in prison.
The Attack and Investigation
Firearms officers discovered Offei‑Ntow severely injured in his flat after finding his bloodied car abandoned nearby. The police later retrieved both the weapon and the stolen Audi. Prosecutors described the attack as “utterly mindless” and “premeditated, reckless and malicious.”
Court Verdict and Background
The court found Tokosi dangerous because he had a history of violence despite his claims that his music career and fast-paced lifestyle had inspired his actions. The convictions included possessing a self-loading pistol and ammunition with intent to endanger life and possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
DigDat’s life sentence highlights the deadly consequences of gun violence, showing fame cannot shield individuals from accountability for violent crimes.
