Minneapolis Shooting Tensions: Minnesota is the latest flashpoint in the intense debate on immigration policy and federal enforcement in America and the recent wave of shootings involving federal immigration agents, two of which happened this month in Minneapolis, triggered tension between the federal government and state governments. The increasing protests and erosion of trust, however, were addressed by United States President DonaldTrump in a move where he deployed senior officials to oversee Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations.
A border czar is defined as a high-level governmental official appointed to manage and direct immigration enforcement and border security policy both on paper and in practice, essentially acting as the presidential advisor and ground leader on such issues.
In response to the criticism, President Trump stated that he is dispatching his top border enforcement officer, Tom Homan, to Minnesota to manage the situation on the ground. Homan will assist in the investigation of welfare fraud, which the administration claims is rampant in the state and is related to the protests. However, it points to the notion that the federal government may increase control rather than pulling back.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tom Homan will not only oversee ICE operations in Minnesota but also work with officials investigating large-scale fraud in the state. “Tom Homan will be managing ICE Operations on the ground in Minnesota to continue arresting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens. In addition, Tom will coordinate with those leading investigations into the massive, widespread fraud that has resulted in billions of taxpayer dollars being stolen from law-abiding citizens in Minnesota,” she wrote.
