Amada Mia Brown: Body Recovered After Extensive Search Operation
Authorities located Amada’s body during an aerial survey conducted along the Laguna Beach coastline on Thursday morning. Officials spotted the child approximately 250 to 300 yards offshore near Christmas Cove, about a quarter-mile north of where she was last seen near Treasure Island Beach.
Marine safety teams recovered the body with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbour Patrol. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department Coroner Division later confirmed the identity of the recovered child and notified her family.

The incident occurred on the evening of June 9 when powerful waves and hazardous surf conditions struck the shoreline near Treasure Island Beach. Amada, her mother, and her brother were pulled into the ocean by strong water conditions.
Witnesses immediately rushed into the water and managed to rescue Amada’s mother and brother. However, the young girl was swept farther into the ocean before rescuers could reach her. Two people who assisted in the rescue effort were later taken to a hospital with injuries and were reported to be in stable condition.
Search Covered More Than 90 Square Miles
Following the incident, the U.S. Coast Guard joined local agencies in a large-scale search operation involving boats, aircraft, rescue crews, and marine safety personnel.
Search teams spent more than 30 hours searching an area exceeding 90 square miles before officials suspended active operations on Wednesday evening. Challenging conditions, including strong currents, large waves, and limited underwater visibility, complicated the search efforts.
Capt. Stacey Crecy, commander of Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach, said, “Our deepest condolences go out to the child’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
“Suspending a search is an extremely difficult decision. We launched assets and responded as quickly as possible, continuously searching throughout the night and until sunset on June 10, 2026. We worked hand-in-hand with first responders in Laguna Beach to carry out a coordinated and thorough search of the area.”
Father Shares Emotional Tribute
At a vigil held after the recovery, Amada’s father, Aaron Brown, spoke about the daughter he called his “little princess.”
Aaron Brown told ABC7, “She liked ‘Moana,’ she liked ‘Frozen.’ She was my little princess.” “She’s just my sweet baby.”
“She’s a bright child. She’s just 5 years old. She loved the beach… She was never afraid of the water.”
The emotional gathering brought together family, friends, and community members who came to honour Amada’s memory and support her loved ones during the difficult time.
Officials Warn of Dangerous Surf Conditions
The tragedy unfolded during a period of unusually dangerous surf along Southern California’s coastline. Officials said strong waves, rip currents, and powerful water movement created hazardous conditions capable of pulling people into deep water within seconds.
