Damir Davydov: A powerful explosion in the Moscow suburb of Balashikha has reportedly claimed the life of Damir Davydov, a senior Russian defence official linked to missile and ammunition supply operations. While Russian authorities confirmed that a car explosion occurred and opened a criminal investigation, they had not officially identified the victim at the time of reporting.
Several Russian and Ukrainian media outlets, however, named Davydov as the person killed in the blast, making the incident one of the most significant attacks involving a Russian military figure in recent months.
Who Was Damir Davydov?
According to multiple reports, Damir Davydov served in Russia’s military establishment for decades and held senior positions within the country’s missile and artillery command structure.
Davydov was reportedly associated with the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate (GRAU) of Russia’s Defence Ministry, an agency responsible for overseeing missile systems, artillery equipment and ammunition supplies for Russian forces.
Before taking senior leadership roles, he reportedly commanded the Central Test Technical Bureau connected to the 51st Arsenal of Russia’s Defence Ministry. Over the years, he rose through the ranks and became involved in military logistics and weapons procurement.
Reports also suggest that he played a key role in coordinating missile and ammunition deliveries for Russian military operations.
Did a Social Media Post Reveal Davydov’s Location?
Reports circulating in Russian and Ukrainian media suggest that Damir Davydov’s movements may have been exposed through a social media post allegedly shared by his son, Rafael Davydov, a Russian military cadet. According to these reports, the post showed Rafael posing beside a BMW X3 believed to be the same vehicle destroyed in the Balashikha explosion.
Observers noted that the car’s registration plate was clearly visible in the image, raising speculation that attackers could have used the information to track the vehicle.
However, authorities have not confirmed this theory. The explosion, which reportedly had a force equivalent to up to 500 grams of TNT, engulfed the SUV in flames moments after it began moving. Witnesses reportedly pulled Davydov from the burning wreckage, but he died before emergency crews could save him.
Investigators are still examining the circumstances surrounding the blast and whether the attack was planned using information available online.

According to reports, he held several patents related to rocket engines and artillery ammunition technologies and was regarded as an experienced specialist within Russia’s military infrastructure.
By 2017, he had reportedly become head of the Missile and Ammunition Supply Directorate within Russia’s defence apparatus.

Russian authorities reported that the explosion occurred at around 5:30 a.m. local time in Balashikha’s Aviatorov neighbourhood, a residential district located just outside Moscow. Investigators said a BMW X3 exploded shortly after it left a parking area near a residential building.
According to reports from Russian media outlets, an improvised explosive device had allegedly been placed underneath the vehicle before being detonated remotely.
Witnesses told local media that the driver was still alive immediately after the blast. However, emergency responders were unable to save him, and he died at the scene before medical assistance arrived.
