US Israel Strike On Iran: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has strongly criticised the recent US and Israeli military strikes on Iran. He called the attacks a “catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression.” His statement came just hours after US President Donald Trump announced the military action on Saturday.
Mamdani shared his reaction on X shortly after the announcement of the strikes. In his post, he sharply condemned the bombing campaign and warned about the consequences of expanding the conflict.
He wrote, “Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theatre of war. Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change.”
He further added, “They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace.”
In a longer statement, he said, “Today’s military strikes on Iran — carried out by the United States and Israel mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war. Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit…”

Earlier, President Trump revealed in a video message that the United States had launched “major combat operations” inside Iran. He said the objective was to encourage regime change.
The President of the United States (POTUS) also urged Iranian citizens to take control of their government once the strikes come to an end.
Mamdani’s public criticism came just two days after he met President Trump at the White House. During their meeting, they discussed housing development in New York City and cooperation on local governance issues.
Before the meeting, Mamdani described his discussion with the MAGA leader as “productive” and expressed hope for continued collaboration.
The sharp difference between that meeting and his later condemnation of the Iran strikes shows the political balance Mamdani must maintain. As mayor, he needs to work with federal authorities. At the same time, he must respond to the concerns of his supporters.
The mayor also addressed Iranian residents living in New York. He urged calm and offered reassurance during the rising tensions.
In his message, he said, “You are part of the fabric of this city, you are our neighbours, small business owners, students, artists, workers, and community leaders. You will be safe here.”
Hours before Mamdani’s statement, the New York Police Department (NYPD) announced that it was increasing patrols at sensitive locations across the city. These include diplomatic missions and cultural institutions.
The department said the move was a precautionary measure in response to the military developments overseas.
