Priyanka for Congress, not Gathbandan
Congress leader from Uttar Pradesh, Raj Babbar recently told the media that Priyanka Gandhi would campaign for the state Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. There has been major speculation about Priyanka’s involvement in the campaign. More so, she had let it be known that in case the Mahagathbandan comes through then it does not make sense for her to campaign as that would mean the alliance was putting up a non Congress Chief Minister. Hence, Congress leaders are reading more into Babbar’s statement that just a Priyanka-will-campaign announcement. They are also taking this to indicate that the Congress high command is not in favour of an alliance just yet. Which makes us wonder where election strategist Prashant Kishor fits in all this.
Kishor Ok for Punjab, but not for UP
Apparently, election strategist Prashant Kishor has run into some rough weather with the Congress in Uttar Pradesh and has noticeably been absent at key strategy meetings with UP leaders at Rahul Gandhi’s residence. However, sources say that he has been given the go ahead in Punjab, where he continues to work in tandem with Captain Amarinder Singh. Though not without a stern warning from Priyanka Gandhi, who was overheard ticking off Kishor “not to create trouble amongst Congress leaders in Punjab” recently.
Telling it like it is
It is an open secret in the Congress that decisions regarding Sonia Gandhi and her two children, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are not taken by the party, but by the family themselves. And so when emerging out of 10 Janpath, Captain Amarinder Singh was asked by the media whether Priyanka would be campaigning in the coming elections, he replied with a simple, “Am I an astrologer?” Well, what else could he say?
