The mysterious braid chopping incidents have created a wave of fear and anger among the women folk in Jammu and Kashmir. A few incidents of braid chopping were reported from South Kashmir, which created a lot of panic among women.

The district authorities of Doda in Jammu were forced to ban the entry of any stranger into the district for two months, after some people alleged that some outsiders were responsible for braid chopping incidents in different villages of Doda. So far, according to people, dozens of braid chopping incidents have taken place. However, they said that after the latest ban on the entry of outsiders, no cases have come to light. But the officials of Doda district told this reporter that 14 cases of braid chopping have been reported in the past two weeks from different villages of Doda district.

The district administration of Doda has banned the entry of strangers including sellers, unknown persons, baazigars, scent sellers, beggars, outside labourers and street hawkers for a period of two months. However, the administration of Doda district said that any stranger can enter only after taking permission from the police station concerned. Braid chopping incidents have also created panic in Kokernag area of Anantnag after a school girl Naira Nazir found her braid chopped at her home. This incident shocked among school going girls in the area and women held protests, forcing the authorities to come to the spot and assure them that such incidents will not take place again. A similar incident of braid chopping was reported from Kulgam.
