The special cell of Delhi police arrested a terrorist suspected of Islamic State (IS), Mohammad Shahnawaz (31), recently.
The police have also recovered liquid chemicals to make improvised explosive devices (IEDs). While addressing a press conference, Special Commissioner of Police, HGS Dhaliwal, said, “For a long time, the special cell has been keeping an eye on IS activities, and a lot of such modules have been busted”. He also said that the arrested terrorist carried out recce at various places in western and southern India, including procuring materials, containers, and pipes for explosions. He also said that they were planning to target VVIPs.The special cell revealed that the arrested terrorist was receiving orders from a Pakistani-based IS agent, Farahtullah Ghori. He has been linked to high-profile attacks like the 2002 Akshardham Temple attacks and the suicide attack on security forces in Hyderabad.
