NewsJewellery shop owner waits for recovered gold weeks after big heist

NEW DELHI

Three weeks after one of the biggest heists in the Bhogal area of South Delhi, the owner of Umaro Singh Jewellers, Varun Jain, is hoping to get back the recovered amount looted from his shop.

Jain said, “Since the festival season is going on and this is the best time to do business, we hope the recovered gold will be returned to us soon. We are very thankful to the police for arresting the accused in such a short time.” He added, “Cheating or snatching is the only crime in this market; however, this robbery shocked everyone. We have also increased our security system so that, in future, such incidents never happen.” Another jewellery shop owner said: “We will have to look for more security systems for our shops, and the police should also take necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of our shops.”

According to investigators, the recovered gold will be returned to the owner once the court proceedings are over. The investigators have also ruled out the involvement of any internal person from the shop in this theft. The prime accused in this heist, Lokesh Srivas (32), was arrested from Bhila. During the investigation, it was revealed that Lokesh alone planned this heist. He had a track record of targeting jewellery shops and was arrested twice earlier. He operated independently, making it hard for the police to trace him. He carries a bag with a cutter, hammer, and did an extensive recce of the targeted shops. He targetted Umaro Singh Jewellers a s it was famous and old shop.

The police said the accused entered the shop on Sunday night from the terrace of an adjoining building and stayed in the shop till Monday evening after spending 18-20 hours. He then went to the ISBT Kashmere gate and boarded a bus to Chhattisgarh.
