CWC urges Rahul Gandhi to take LoP role in Lok Sabha

NewsCWC urges Rahul Gandhi to take LoP role in Lok Sabha

NEW DELHI: Congress Working Committee (CWC) members on Saturday unanimously urged Rahul Gandhi to take on the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, as it also credited the party’s electoral performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections (Congress leaders overall revival) to his two Bharat Jodo Yatras for the party’s performance in the general elections.

A party insider said, “He (Rahul Gandhi) will think about it. There are a lot of clerical activities associated with the LoP position. Rahul had been free from any big constitutional responsibility which gives him leeway to manage political issues surrounding his party or connecting with the masses.”

At a press conference following the meeting of the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC), party general secretary KC Venugopal said, “CWC unanimously requested Rahul Gandhi to take the position of the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha. He is the best person to lead this campaign inside the Parliament.”.

On being asked which seat (Rae Bareli or Wayanad) Rahul Gandhi keeps, Venugopal said, “This decision has to be taken before June 17 and it will come in 3-4 days.”

Moreover, according to party insiders, there are talks that Rahul could give up his Wayanad seat however no decision has been taken on it yet.
