17 months on, BPSC exam results still not published

News17 months on, BPSC exam results still not published

Results of the 56-59th Combined (Main) Written Competitive Examination of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) have not been released even after 17 months due to discrepancies in preparation of results. The discrepancies were found during an internal investigation carried out by BPSC officials, sources have said.

The 56-59th Combined (Main) Written Competitive Examination was held between 8 July and 30 July 2016. The results of the mains examination should have been declared within six to eight months of the examination.

According to sources, the BPSC is hiding the real reason behind not declaring the results after an internal investigation has revealed many errors in preparations for the examination as well as results. The investigation has also raised serious concern about the functioning of the commission.

A source in BPSC said: “A massive slip up was revealed in an internal investigation regarding preparing results for the main examination and this is causing delay in the results. Officials responsible for the preparation of results are working hard to fix these errors.”

The BPSC is an institution assigned to conduct examinations and recruit staff or senior officials, including the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Deputy Collector (DC) in the state.

“Senior BPSC officials are under pressure as the commission has repeatedly failed to complete the process of examination in Bihar for many years. The situation is like this even when the state is struggling due to a shortage of grade ‘A’ and ‘B’ officials,” the same source cited above said.

On the other hand, the BPSC management has shifted the blame on the high number of applicants for the delay in results.

A senior BPSC official said: “In Bihar, no service commission examination has been taking place since 2010; thus the state government had directed the commission to hold a combined examination in a systematic way.”

“Seeing the resentment of candidates, questions were raised by many political leaders even in the state Assembly regarding the delay of results. Also, the state government has held several rounds of review meetings with BPSC officials, but nothing has happened in this direction,” the official said.

Candidates who took the BPSC examination have organised several rounds of protests.

They have handed over a memorandum to BPSC officials and the government as well.
