New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday emphasized the importance of swift justice in cases involving crimes against women, stating that it will provide greater assurance of their safety. The prime minister also highlighted that the judiciary is regarded as the Guardian of the Constitution, and that both the Supreme Court and the judiciary have upheld this responsibility. Addressing the inaugural session of a national conference of the district judiciary, in the presence of Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, Modi noted that the people of India have consistently shown trust in the Supreme Court and the judiciary. Referring to the imposition of the Emergency as a “dark” period, the Prime Minister praised the judiciary for its crucial role in upholding fundamental rights during that time.
