Congress headquarters will shift to Kotla

NewsCongress headquarters will shift to Kotla

After the BJP shifted its office to a new premises, the Congress too is all set have a new address in Delhi, close to the ruling party’s office at Deel Dayal Upadhyay Marg. The Congress, however, plans to build the entrance from Kotla Road, as it does not want the name of Deen Dayal Upadhyay to be associated with its office address.

Work is going to start in full swing on the two-acre plot allotted to the Congress on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg. Sources said efforts are on to get the work completed by October so that it could be inaugurated on 19 November, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The building is likely to be named Indira Gandhi Bhavan. The party has been operating from 24, Akbar Road ever since its split in 1978. However, the Ministry of Urban Development has asked the party to vacate it. This was done following the Supreme Court’s directive to shift offices of political parties out of the Lutyen Zone.

The source, however, said since the plot is located on the corner of DDU Marg and Kotla Road, the party plans to build the entrance from the Kotla Road side as it does not want the new office to be associated with Deen Dayal Upadhyay. Therefore, the new Congress office address will be 9, Kotla Road. The new Congress office will have six floors. One floor may be reserved for the party president. The new office would have other facilities like auditorium, room for media briefings, conference rooms, a library, underground parking etc. It is quite close to the BJP headquarters, which was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi.
