If you have ever wondered how things like a loudspeaker, a camera or a jet engine works, then Animagraffs is the website to go to.
Run by graphic designer Jacob O’Neal, the site offers explanations illustrated with animated GIFs that not only detail the mechanism involved in the working of the device but also present the science behind it.
The science part may not be a cakewalk for the layman but it is a capable attempt. As O’Neal sells his works to clients, you may have come across his presentations while browsing the internet.
For instance, his work on how a loudspeaker produces sound has been featured by Reddit technology, on twitter by Sony, and Meyer Sound, among others.
He researches his topics himself, and lists his sources at the end of each presentation. The website is easy to operate, in fact all you really have to do is access the website and click on a presentation you want to view, and the rest unfolds like a picture story.
And what is a bonus is that the pictures move, giving a clearer idea of what is really going on inside the neat shells we identify as a loudspeaker or a camera.
“I used to get in trouble as a kid for taking things apart,” O’ Neal writes on his website, but channelled toward his work, the child-like fascination with what’s inside things might help many other children (and adults) make sense of the world around them.
