Security intensified to catch terrorists suspected to have entered the capital

NewsSecurity intensified to catch terrorists suspected to have entered the capital

The security apparatus in New Delhi is working round the clock to track the movements of four suspected terrorists who are suspected to have entered the national capital in the first week of January. That these four terrorists have entered New Delhi was “confirmed” to the security establishment by private individuals whose identities have not been revealed.
The Intelligenc Bureau had earlier generated the input that the national capital was a target and an imminent attack was planned on a popular mall in South Delhi that sees a considerable foot-fall even during weekdays. Official sources said that the terrorists want to carry out an operation similar to that took place in Mumbai in 2008 and kill as many people as they can after taking them hostage. “The attack was planned for the first week of 2016 but since security was increased at specific places after the Pathankot attack, these terrorists have likely postponed their plans and are waiting for an opportunity to carry out their nefarious plans. Since this is likely to be a suicide mission, the casualties will be very high if they are not caught soon,” an official with the IB said.
Officials stated that it was most likely that these terrorists were a member of the same group that had caused the mayhem in Pathankot. “They entered Delhi from Gurgaon and are carrying weapons. We have alerted every concerned agency and have also shared the information with the Delhi police,” an official with the IB said. The said information, which was shared with other agencies through Multi agency Centre (MAC) network, has been termed as highly actionable by the officials.According to sources, the description of the suspects was also being shared with police force of other states which share border with Delhi.
“With Delhi witnessing heightened security, we suspect that they will try to move to other states, including Uttar Pradesh to escape detection and lie low. In view of this, we have shared their details with other states. We are also carrying out several small operations in old Delhi and other areas to find these suspects,” the official added.
