SportsCue Sports Compendium a must read for cue sports fans
Cue Sports Compendium, a book on the history of Indian and world cue sports, written by Ravindra Kumar Gupta is a must read for every cue sports fan of the country. This book is a great effort to popularize the game and it took nearly two years for Ravindra Gupta to complete this project.
Cue Sports Compendium is an exhaustive, comprehensive, authentic and historical data of both billiards and snooker. It was Wilson Jones who started the billiards revolution by emphatically claiming India’s first World title at Great Eastern Hotel, Kolkata. H was the pied piper and the entire billiards fraternity followed him to the hilt. Michael Ferreira, Arvind Savur, Satish Mohan, Geet Sethi, O B Agarwal and Aditya Mehta followed suit with nearly thirty world titles. This book depicts India’s phenomenal rise since the days of Wilson Jones to Pankaj Advani who has now become a poster boy of the green baize game.
From Joe Davis to Ronnie O’ Sullivan this book leaves everyone mesmerized. Joe Davis, was primarily a billiards player  who embraced snooker by sheer chance.
The article on Satish Mohan and O B Agarwal deserves special mention as the two players went into obscurity. And who can forget the emotionally surcharged piece on Wilson Jones who was almost dying when the editor tearfully bade him good bye.
The article on Walter Lindrum and Don Bradman asuumes great significance, as it is sprinkled with anecdotes. If Don Bradman had not played cricket he was destined to sparkle in any other sports.
From Joe Davis to Ronnie O’ Sullivan this book leaves everyone mesmerized. Joe Davis, who was primarily a billiards player embraced snooker by sheer chance to become all time great in this game. Ronnie O’Sullivan is a modern day enigma. The editor had encountered this boy in Bangalore where he was barely 12. He won the under 21 World Snooker Championship and went on catapult the snooker world. It is astounding that this gentleman has amassed over one thousand breaks of 147, the maximum snooker. There is very informative and detailed coverage on pool game. Though it is not very popular in this country but abroad it’s a huge hit.
The rare photographs of the three Prime Ministers Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi is a bonus tucked away in this volume. Besides there are photographs of Barrack Obama, Kapil Dev and to be on the lighter side.
